I open the sliding side door on the drivers side with the key fob. then I unlock the doors with the fob. and in less than a minute the van locks all the doors by itself. Why? This feature got my grandson locked in the van with the keys.

Sounds like something isn't right.Try to disconnect the battery for a few minutes and see if that helps. Some times the ecu gets haywired and disconnecting the battery might reset it.And if it is the original battery you might want to get it tested.

dont blame the idiot,we all make stupid mistakes without thinking and iam no exception, remove door trim and oil the solonoid with a oil can not a silly sunday mechanic spray and let it soak in as its working but i think its just a bit sticky with wear and dirt ingress hence it locks but doesnt unlock which might need a bit more power, oil the whole lot lock and all

For the sliding doors you need to clean the contacts, there are 6 or 8 on both sides, just wipe them clean as they are probably covered in oil/grease/grime.

you may need to replace the door locking actuator, they do tend to go bad over times. does the driver side door lock automatic when using the lock button on the driver side. if you can lock and unlock the driver side door with a switch, my guess would not be the locking actuator, it might be in the remote locking module.
Testimonial: "Thanks for the help. everything relates back to the actuator.."
