Question about Mazda MAZDA3

The windshield wipers are out of calibration. they wipe in the wrong direction. when they stop, the are in vertical position.

    thanks SCOTT, I TRIED THAT BUT THE WIPERS ORE OPERATING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION. WHEN I RESET THEM IN THE DOWN POSITION, THEY TRIED TO GO UNDER THE HOOD. I THINK THE PROBLEM STARTED WHEN I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY. COULD THE PROBLEM BE IN THE COMPUTER AND MAY NEED TO BE RESET?

    I have exact same problem on my 2004 Mazda 3. I'm going to be fixing mine soon. The most likely problem is the park circuit inside the motor. Acorrding to some research I've done, another possiblity is a poor ground wire leading to the motor. Hopefully mine will be a faulty ground wire, so I dont have to buy a new motor.

Sounds like you need to take off the wiper arms when they are off and set them in the right spots

    YES it could but if you can get to the back of the wiper motor you can take the bar off let it come to the off spot and then hook the bar back up

Windshield Wiper Operation
The smart junction box (SJB) supplies power to the multifunction switch from the SJB fuse 25 (20A) when the ignition switch is in the ON or ACC position. The multifunction switch supplies power to the windshield wiper motor for the HIGH or LOW/INTERMITTENT input, depending on the multifunction switch position selected. The SJB also supplies power directly to the windshield wiper motor from fuse 25 (20A) when the ignition switch is in the ON or ACC position for RUN/PARK operation. When the multifunction switch is in the LOW, HIGH, or INTERMITTENT position, power is supplied to the windshield wiper motor, which moves the wipers off the park position. Once the wipers are off the park position, an internal switch in the windshield wiper motor switches to the run/park position which directs power to the wiper switch then back to the wiper motor. This maintains power to the windshield wiper motor to complete the wipe cycle. When the cycle is complete, the internal switch in the windshield wiper motor switches back to the park position. If the multifunction switch is in the LOW or HIGH position, power is supplied from the multifunction switch and another wipe cycle starts. If the multifunction switch is in the INTERMITTENT position, the windshield wipers remain parked until the internal relay in the multifunction switch supplies power to the windshield wiper motor. The internal relay supplies power after a time delay that is determined by the 1 of 9 intermittent switch settings.

Monowiper works fine when in full wipe but when in intermittent wipe and park mode it stops 3 inches too high ??


It sounds like the wiper parking position relay has failed. You see, when you turn on the wiper a series of relays on the actuator side are energized and cause the wiper motor to turn on and move the mono-wiper through its arc.

When it reaches the maximum extent of its travel, the wiper circuitry then reverses the arms direction and it swings back. This goes on until you turn off the wipers by turning off the ignition key or turning off the power switch.

When you turn off the wipers, the parking circuitry is activated. The central feature of this part of the wiper circuitry is the parking position relay. As the wiper begins to de-energize the parking position relay is activated. The position relay ensures that the wiper returns gently to the same position each time you turn off the wipers.

If the parking position relay weren't there, the wipers would park wherever they stopped on the windshield. However, the relay circuitry charges when you hit the off button and ensures that the wiper arm sweeps down to the same spot each time. If it does not activate, the wiper arm stops as soon as you turn off the power, as noted. This means that the wiper might, one time, stop in the center of the windshield or it might stop all the way to the left of right.

Aside from its complete failure, manufacturers build in telltales that indicate when the circuit is about to go. One of them is the wiper blade's parked position. Normally, the position relay ensures that the de-energized wiper circuit settles gently to the bottom of the windshield, as noted. However, if the position relay is failing most manufacturers have it park some distance from the bottom of the windshield to give you a head's up that the relay is on its way out.

Since the wiper circuits are fairly involved, it is best to leave it to a trained professional to do the work. However, if you feel you have the expertise to do it, your first step is to obtain the serviced manual for your vehicle. The service manual will give you the step-by-step repair procedure.

Since all parts of the wiper circuitry are related be careful, if you are repairing it yourself, that you replace each component according to the instructions as you might damage something else inadvertently.

simple actually- 1- on wiper arms- flip up cap on end- remove nut, 2 using a screw driver and small wood block lift arms off driver screw.3 turn key on cycle wipers- turn off 4- reattach arms in correct position and retighten-., test with arms up- not on glass- is still wrong- the link from wiper motor to cross arm wrong- - buy a HAYES repair manual- will show how to remove cowl cover yourself- is easy , then follow instuctions in manual to correct link

Perhaps you might try removing the wipers at rest position (where ever they stop) and setting them back on as close to the folded position. If that doesn't solve the problem it might be in the switch. The last and worst scenario is a defective motor

  • When the turn signal and windshield wiper switch is moved to the OFF position, the windshield wiper motor will continue at low speed until the park switch outer contacts open.
  • When the park switch contacts open, the windshield wiper motor stops in the park position.
Interval
When the turn signal and windshield wiper switch is in the interval position:
  • The wipers make single wipes separated by pauses.
  • The rotary switch is on the end of turn signal and windshield wiper switch .
  • The length of the pause can be set from approximately 1 to 17 seconds.
  • Length of pause decreases as the rotary switch is rotated away from off.
  • Length of pause increases as the rotary switch is rotated toward off.
While in the interval wiper mode:
  • It is normal to hear a slight click at the beginning of each on/pause cycle. NOTE: When using interval wipers, the first wipe may not occur until after a pause of up to 17 seconds.

Wipers won't stop wiping.


Sounds like your intermittent wiper circuit is defective. Normally the intermittent feature is engaged by one of the functions on the multi-function switch (usually on the steering column). The circuit of the intermittent wiper periodically activates a relay that closes across the "Wiper On" switch. Your intermittent wiper circuit is likely defective and holding its relay closed (or the relay is stuck closed), thereby keeping the wipers on. Note: The wiper motor has an internal switch that opens when the wipers are in the park position and that is designerd to stop the wipers in the park position. When you turn on the wipers (or the intermittent relay is closed), the motor's internal switch is shunted such that the wiper does not stop at the park point of the cycle.

Whindshield wipers stuck in a vertical position


This is an easy fix. Likely ice got on your windshield and froze your wipers to the glass then when turned on moved out of position. Take the cover off the base of the wipers and loosen the bolts. Put them down all the way and tighten. When wipers are turned on when frozen to glass the gears want to move but cant and loosens at the base. Please let me know if this does not help and will look into it further but this is probably it. Thanks
