Try cleaning out the carb, replacing fluids, and then put a fuel filter on it, because all the 1980-1988 toyotas didnt have fuel filters on them. Just go buy one cheap from your local hardware store, and install it on your fuel line.
This same thing happened to my 1987 toyota 22r pickup truck.

We have a toyota 2000 camry which stalls after long distance driving. we have replaced the cool and temp sensor and found the air flow box wasn't connected. it is now and still stalls

Do you live in a hot climate? I have not heard this happen on newer cars but it sounds to me it is vapor locking.check and see if the gas lines run by anything that gets very hot. I worked a 2005 ford truck that was doing the same thing. I had to run the gas lines on the other side of the frame. Good luck

2014 Toyota Highlander Looses power while driving

I would think it is a plugged fuel filter/fuel line. The blockage moves away when you stop and then when you drive again it blocks the gas flow again.

Truck cuts off while driving

you might have a restricted fuel filter or a weak fuel pump. does it stall while you are trying to accelerate? when it stalls, does it shut off as if you've turned it off with the key, or does it putter out?

86 Toyota Celica starts, runs for a second, then stalls out... any ideas?

try to open the air filter and pour a little bit of petrol inside carb, bottle cap size... if its runs, then your carb need to service, the car might not starts for quite sometimes i guess.

My Moms 1998 toyota camry 4Cyl. intermittingly stalls when slowing to a stop. I can put it into nuetral and brake rev.,however, this is my Moms car and she is 85. She's already had the idle air control...

pull the vac line off going to egr valve and plug off the vac line and drive it to see if it will still stall.but if i was a betting man i would say that it will not die and you will need to replace the egr valve this is a common problem.if it sets a check engine light cause you unplugged the vac hose you can reset by pulling the efi fuse that is under the hood in the fuse block and keep it out for about 30 sec or taking the battery cable off. good luck and i hope this will help let me know how i did and if i can help you any further...........

I have an 86 monte carlo 4.3 efi,,,the car didnt want to start wich i believed were fuel problems.i replaced fuel filter and checked fuel lines to see if clooged.checked out ok so i talked to a mechanic...

The fuel pump is bad, the electric motor was stuck in a bad position & when you hit the bottom of the tank it made the rotor turn to good spot which allowed you to drive. But make no mistake, the fuel pump is bad!

Fuel not flowing as it should. 86 Corolla

Check the fuel pump pressure using a fuel pump pressure guage. It would not necessarily be unheard of to have a new, but bad, fuel pump. No or low pressure, then take the pump back and get another one.
