Your imobilizer has activated. You want start the car from the key when this happens. And when you do manage to start it,It will only run for 2 seconds. If you have a key fob try replacing the battery.Or have an auto electrtion to bypass the imobilizer.I hope that was help full.Good luck.

Your key is programed to the steering lock. The key has lost its code The ignition is allso coded to receive the signal from your key.You need to go to the dealers and have the key reprogramed. That should sort it for you good luck.

Starts but won't stay running

Turn off all your accesories and turn the key forward, but dont start it. You should hear the pump kick on for 2-3 seconds. Prime the system a few times then start it. This will narrow your diagnosis

Starter making whirring noise.

When you say it won't start you mean it won't crank, right ?

If you have a duralast starter from auto zone, that may be the problem.
Aftermarket brand starters and alternators can be lemons sometimes.
A mechanic would check for voltage at the starter with the key in the on and start positions. Also check the ground connections.
Its possible the starter is not getting full battery voltage for some reason.

Starter just clicking

It clicks repeatedly while holding the key in Start, or just clicks once?
Sounds like the solenoid for the starter is kicking in, hence the click noise, but the starter itself is either stuck or dead.

Does the car have a factory security system? it may have a starter kill on it.
also check for voltage at the starter solenoid while someone holds the key to start position, you could have a faulty ignition switch.
the engine light stays on when the key is on until engine starts.

hi yes unfortunatly starters do have a habbit of dying, actually it is not normally the starter itself but the solinoid connected to the starter, you can try this to see if it will unstick it, get a friend to turn the key as if to start the car, and then at the same time give the starter a tap with a hammer or bar if you cant get to it, be sure to stay away from any moving parts if it starts it could be bad, but just tap it, no need to give it a bash a few light taps should free it, if no joy then you will need it changing...hope this helps

My car wont stay running

Does the engine die as soon as you release the key, or does it run for a couple of seconds after you release the key and then die? If it dies as soon as you release the key, try holding the key for a few seconds and see if it will stay running as long as you are holding the key (the starter will make a grinding sound while holding the key but won't hurt anything). If it stays running while you hold the key then dies when you release it, that indicates that the ignition switch is bad.
