I have a 1999 Chevy Silverado, the a/c works fine for a while then blows hot. If I turn a/c off for a while, it will cool again, but after a little while, will blow hot. What could it be?

Ok sounds like you may need to add a can or two of 134a freon which isnt too expensive you will have to have special gauges to make sure of the correct amount of refridgerent if you over fill the system you could bust a line on your condensor or worse screw up your ac pump but you can find 134a at all your local auto parts stores when you put the freon in you want the vehicle to run and the ac on high all the way cold and when the can is punctured shake it constantly until empty one way to cheat without using gauges is to hold you hand on the low pressure line when it gets cold that means you almost got it done make sure you do not connect the can to the high pressure side because you can blow up the can in your hand i would start with one little can then go check to see if you have cold air if its not frezzing cold you can put another one in until you are satisfied if you need anymore help just ask :)

It sounds like you need to charge your a/c system.

If you know for a fact the compressor is running and one of the lines is cold, I would look for a blend door problem. The blend doors direct air thru the heater and evaporator.

AC blowing hot air one side & cool air other side

If it has dual zone temp. control it is most likely the heater control panel.

My ac works and blows well at times...at times the ac will just blow hot air. I will turn off and turn back on a day or so later and then the ac works fine. 1999 chevrolet silverado 1500. any help?

I had the same problem - charged the freon, no help. Finally an ole timer AC guy found the problem - the clutch gap needed to be adjusted. Don't know if he tightened or loosened, but find an AC guy and ask them about the clutch gap.

The seal package in your unit leaked out the freaon. It will have to be resealed again and recharged.

1999 Chevy Cavalier A/C blows hot air

More likely the recharge blew a o-ring and you have a leak. When your Cavalier was blowing hot air and a recharge fixed it that means it was low on freon which lets o-rings dry out, go back to the shop and have them leak test it. They use a pressurized dye to find the problem. If it's blowing it's not the cooling fan relay, they may have meant compressor relay but I'd have a leak test done first it's not expensive and easier that chasing unknown possibilities.
