How to change door lock cylinder on 05 jette

Most likely the "paddle" that attaches to the lock cylinder is broken

What do you mean by "went out"?

No it will not....covers that fit OVER the handle will fit but not the actual handle.

This seems to be a common problem with this series of radio. If you open the drivers door and pop the fuse panel cover off the side of the dash, then locate fuse number 42 ( should be 25 amp). Remove the fuse, check to see if it is blown(it usually isn't), if it isn't blown leave it out for about 30 seconds to 1 minute and then reinstall. Hope this helps it worked on my 02 Jetta TDI.

Code p2181 is a cooling system fault.
On occasions it is caused by a faulty cylinder head gasket...
But more often a problem with one of the following.
First check the coolant level... thermostat..fan motor thermo switch and water pump. It is usually of these that cause the problem

weak battery. also could have failing door latch

press and hold lock button on remote while pointing it at the senser.

This almost impossible to do with destroying the glove box door so I would have a new door to go with the new lock.

according to my partsman (who has had great advice for many years), you do not have to remove the door panel to replace the door handle which contains the cylinder lock. the handle is released with a screw which you can see when you open the door. you will need a starhead screwdriver or socket. A new handle costs around $40 at a parts store in my area. call around for a locksmith who will re-key your key to the new lock or use the key which comes with the new lock, your choice. i am in dealing with this also
