Seal on transfer case is leaking on 2004 pontiac vibe and so is power steering fluid. Car has 119,000 miles on it. Will it be expensive and will it break down on me?

The repair want be to bad. The power steering is a common leak. The transfer case isn't all that bad either. I would get estimates from a respected dealer, and ask what guarantee they offer for the price.
Your car is worth around 5300.00 The repairs at a guess are around 1200. for a new steering rack, and to pull and reseal transfer case around 1500.00. So your looking at 2700.00 approx. to put into a 5300.00 car. You might just consider trading for a newer model.

How do you split the transfer case from the gear box on a Jeep Cherokee 1997 model

Once the output shaft cone is removed and all the case half bolts are taken out all that holds it together is the anaerobic sealer gel, you just use a putty knife and work your way around the edges to split the case open into the two halves of the casting.

I had a leak from the gasket that seals the 2 halves of the transmission together on my 5 speed Honda accord automatic. JB weld fixed the leak but In the process i tightened up 3 of the case bolts as tight...

It shouldn't crack or start leaking. The only way it would be a problem is if it was not aligned properly or there was something preventing the two halves from coming together completely.

Replace transfer case chain in a 1989 GMC K2500

its not hard to do you need a gasket and seal kit too the hardest part is seperating the case halves . do not place a screwdriver in the case halves to seperate you will cause a leak ! remove the nuts on the yokes first then the case . mark with a scribed line and remove the trans speedo cable assembly set it aside tap and pry the case halves apart pull off the back half of case the front half is where you want everything to stay in place try to keep it standing up so rear case is up then you can lift up the front output shaft the chain and the planetary remove the rest of parts install new seals and reassemble the case uses rtv black sealant instead of gasket

Transfer case leak

You mean between the case halves? It is just silicon, no gasket. These are good for the pump wearing a hole in the rear housing and leaking oil. The cure for it is a new rear housing and a piece called a case saver that keeps the pump from doing it again. Taking the transfer case apart to fix it is easy, I can tell you how to do it.
