No before you replace the motor because it goes down and is a pain id replace the window switch panel on the door in many cases one side of the switch works and the other dose not do to it being worn out ! replacing the switch panel is easy and takes less than 5 minutes in most cases and can save time and money if this is the problem as in so many cars! let me now it this helps

How to change a window motor in a 2005 pontiac sunfire

If possible, bring the window down to about 2/3rds raised

Remove the door trim panel.

Carefully remove the plastic liner from the door - it should be stuck on with of gooey black stuff. You will be re-using the goo and plastic so be careful with it and dont let the goo'd surfaces touch each other and dont get the goo too dirty.
The inside edges of the metal on the door can sometimes be like a razor blade - you were warned.

You might want to move the window up or down a bit until you can see the bottom of the glass where it joins the rails. This is difficult if the window is stuck full open or full closed - just be patient and careful in these cases. The window connects to the rails somewhere along the bottom of the glass and you might have to feel around to find the clips.Unbolt or unclip the window from the regulator rails and lift the window up and out of the door.

Remove the bolts holding the regulator and motor assembly. There are probably 2 bolts on each of the 2 rails and 2 or 3 bolts on the motor assembly. My guess is that they are 10MM metric bolts. The regulator cables will be clipped onto the door in 2 or 3 spots, push these clips back into the door then drop the motor forward enough to unhook the wire harness from the motor.

At this point you sort of fold up the whole regulator assembly and pull it out.

Replacing the motor with a genuine GM part is VERY expensive. usually, for about 1/3rd of the price of the motor alone, you can get a complete regulator assembly (motor included) from an aftermarket source.

My passenger window is stuck in the down position, Driver side works fine. could this be the motor, fuse, ? Please advise. thanks

since your other power windows are working and if the other interior accessories are working fine I would suggest having the power window motor actuator checked and replaced if found to be defective.

05 sunfire electric window goes down but won't go back up

Should test the swith first with a test light at the connector to the motor. If that is fine then check the regulator any bent parts can cause this to happen. If there are no bent parts try jumping the motor to see if the window goes up and down. If it still won't go up then the easiest solution is to change out the regulator and motor at the same time, if done seperately it is hard.

The driver side window on my 1997 pontiac sunfire SE convertible

More than likely it is the window regulator which is usually replaced as a unit with the motor. Not difficult, pull off door panel and plastic liner and see the nuts to remove....about 4. tape glass up to top and pull out regulator...unclip wires. cost $50 to $100. Don't recommmend junkyard because these will be bad. Make sure that you seal plastic liner when reinstalling.

Electric window

the only way i know is if the motor is still good, is to use a jumper wire to the motor.
1. remove the door panel
2. reach in the door and find where the connector connects to the motor, and take it loose
3take 2 pieces of wire take one from the contact closest to the inside the car to the battery. take the other from the contact to the outside the car and rou to a good ground.
4. if the motor is good it should go up.

If the motor is no good the only way I know is to remove the motor, pull the window up by hand, and then some how support it in the up posisdtion bacause the window will not stay up on its own.

Drivers side electric window

if the motor is bad and its not a problem in the wiring, you are gonna have to remove the motor and pull or push the window up by hand, then you need to support the window to keep it from falling down. if the motor bolts in you can bolt it back in to keep it up. if not you can sometimes use a heavy duty zip tie around the track arms to hold it up. i would not recommend the duct tape i see a lot of people use. but thats your call. hope this was helpful.

Power window comes up intermittently

I had the same problem. It was a bent rod on the regulator, which burned out the motor. Easiest way is to switch out the whole assembly, the motor and the regulator. Mine is working just fine now. I am a female and was able to switch it out just fine i just had to have someone else hold the window in the right positions to get to the bolts on the window.
