After you change the battery in a 2004 jeep grand cherekee do you have to do anything to reprogram it?

Ok, I can answer this one!! The problem when disconnecting the battery the computers reset to the factory initial settings.. This feature is greet when you need to reset the Check engine light, but raises cane when you restart the vehicle.

All of the drive parameters are reset along with the PCM and body electronics module.

The idle many times is lost and the car will not idle. Be sure when you restart not to depress the gas pedal or it will take several minutes before it will relearn idle and will likely stall in the process.

Also the computers can upset when you reconnect the battery. It is possible that you may have to reset a second time if things are a little crazy after reconnecting the battery. The connection will arc and can cause the computers to have a faulty reboot. Wait several minutes before trying a second time.

It will take several miles of driving for the PCM (computer) to map the air fuel so it may miss behave during this learning cycle.. After a few trips all we be well.

There is a process that some shops use to maintain power when swaping out a battery.

Hope this helps. How to change your car battery without losing your radio code and...

What is the reset procedure after cleaning the idle air control valve (stepper motor) on my Renault Megane 2.0 IDE 2000 model?

Your IAC may be bad. You could also have a vacuum leak somewhere. Disconnect the IAC then start the car, If it idles down or starts at a low idle, I would suspect your IAC is bad. Have you pulled the codes from the computer?

I have a 2006 charger rt. We had tcm remanned and now the tcm cannot be found by computer. The bas, esp, and tps lights are all on and wont go out. Car wont shift out of first. What should we do?

You will need to reset the computer, find reset button or disconnect battery and cycle through the start and shift process, then leave disconnected, overnight if possible or at least 2 hours, before reconnecting, start and let idle for 5 minutes before shifting to drive, then drive car on open road and give a firm push to the throttle, try manual shift, if no go, inspect tcm.

i know on subarus and camry u have to disconnect batterry ,switch on headlights,(while battery disconnected ,to discharge diodes in engine control module, memory) then reconnect battery and when u start car hold it at 1500rpm for 3 minutes then allow car to idle,if for example it then idles at 500rpm and u want it to idle at 750 rpm ,repeat the previous battery disconnect procedure and then restart and hold it at 1750rpm for 3 min ...........the increment of idle up and or down is adjusted according to wat revs u hold it at for first 3min , if tis does not rectify problem the throttlebody may need to be adapted to the ecu with diagnostic computer

Let the car relearn, let it idle, then you will have to drive it,to let it relearn,if this does not help, then take it to the dealer to have the computer re-flashed,If this was helpful, please rate, and thank you.

Fast idle wont kick down. it has to be shut off and restarted 2or 3 times. before it will kick down

I believe you will find that your idle air control valve needs to be replaced. This is located on the Throttle body. After replacing the idle air control valve, make sure you disconnect the battery ( either the negative or positive cable ) and leave disconnected for atleast 10 minutes. Then reconnect and start vehicle, your car may fast idle for a short period of time before it returns to idle so is so your ecu relearns the correct postion and resistance reading
