Question about Hyundai Motor 1999 Elantra

1 Answer

The terminals on my hyundai alternator are cooked. The leads going to what looks like the ''-'' battery terminal are dry (baked). This is the second alternator to have this problem. The battery has been tested and is good. I don't know what the problem could be. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

What's your question? hi if the wire leading to the positive terminal of the battery gets corroded by battery acid can it effect the car in starting. ....

Most certainly. If battery acid is present on top of the battery, the seal between the post and the top of the battery is leaking. Replace your battery and use baking soda and water to clean the battery cable.

My battery on a 2012 Chrysler 300 had some kind of grayish blue build up on the red positive connection. Any idea why?

Your positive battery post has lost its seal with the battery case. This lets a small amount of gas to escape from the battery.
That gas causes the corrosion that you have seen on that terminal. You can get a battery terminal spray that coats the terminal in a waxy/ grease that will stop this happening.

Hqw do you replace the alternator on the 2008 hyundai veracruz

this is a very common issue with the 3.3 and 3.8 v6 hyundai engines. it is recomended that you reseal the valve cover with new silcone and a gasket during the repair of the alternator.
    1. Disconnect the battery negative terminal first, then the positive terminal.
    2. Disconnect the alternator connector (A), and remove the cable from alternator "B" terminal (B).
    3. Remove the drive belt (C).
    4. Pull out the through bolt and then remove the alternator (A).
    5. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Where do wires from battery go to on 98 elantra

the positive lead has the larger terminal on it as the battery posts are different sizes. the small terminal goes on the small post and the wire runs to the engine or body as the earth .. Positive leads are coloured red while negative leads are black.

My golf kills the battery every time even if the car is off

for the battery to discharge when everything is off is a clear indication that you have a circuit not controlled by the key. Find out the current used by disconnecting the positive terminal of the battery and connecting an ampmeter in it place so that you can read the current from the battery through the lead. If it small 1-5 amps check for a light on IE boot light that is not switching off because it needs adjustment. If the current is higher then I would suspect something like the alternator lead Attached to the battery lead to the terminal on the alternator. This lead is always alive and is prevented from working because of the diodes in the alternator. . If one is allowing a current flow through the alternator or you suspect that it is disconnect the lead from the alternator over night and look for a response. Ensure the lead is properly insulated as if it is allowed to touch earth it will burn the lead.

Replaced alternator and battery. Battery light continues to stay on-- battery will not hold charge. Fuse was checked and is ok.

Go to the battery positive terminal is ther a 30 or 40 amp fuse you ll have to visually inspect to see if its open, you also need to look in power junction box and look at the big green fuses some orange and some red the big ones not the small one, check to see if any are open more than likely the fuse are open

While driving my battery light came on, my windshield wipers were noticably slower as was my defrost fan. Also my low fuel light came on even though my tank was 3/4 full. What would cause this??

Alternator is not working correctly. You are getting less voltage out of it. The brushes are probably worn out on it. Have the alternator checked and replaced if defective.

My 2002 chevy suburban will not start. The battery is good and when I try to start it doesnt make any sound. It seem like the starter is not connected.

1.Are the battery terminal ends corroded?
This is a side post battery, and they are notorious for battery acid leaking, out of the battery terminal seal.

Solution: Remove both battery terminals, (Negative {Black} terminal FIRST!) Mix up a solution of two tablespoons of baking soda, to one tall glass of warm water. Wearing protective gloves, (Dish washing gloves?), hold the terminal AWAY from the battery, slowly pour the baking soda/water solution on the terminal.
Work the terminal bolt back, and forth in the terminal end, to ensure the solution gets to all surfaces. The terminal will turn a bright copper color.

When you are satisfied that the terminal is clean, pour water over it to rinse the solution off. Dry the terminal with a paper towel, or suitable throw away cloth.
Clean the terminals on the battery with a wire brush.
Reinstall the battery cables. (Positive terminal FIRST, Negative terminal LAST!)

Throw the gloves away in a sealed plastic sack, wash your hands, and arms thoroughly.

2.Do the headlights come on now?
No? Replace battery cable, or cables.

3.Headlights come on? Suspect the starter drive, starter, and ignition switch.

At this point, it's time to have a competent mechanic look at it.
The mechanic will do a cursory inspection of the starter, and see if removal is necessary, or may want to test the ignition switch with a multimeter.
