I just refill my AC and thought it could be that. I replaced the thermostat. What can I do. I need help with the problem before I spnd alot of money on trial and errors. Please....

Two probably thing , you have a pluged radiator or the fan clush is not good, if when you are cruising it doesn' t overheating , but when you stop for 2-5 minuts it does, then is the fan clush, if when cruising it overheating then is the radiator . all this thinking that you checked the cooland level and changed the termostat with the correct oness

What can cause a 2000 Dodge Durango 5.9L to overheat while sitting at a stop light? The temp gauge can peg to the right, but the motor does not show any other signs of overheating.

If it is pegged in the red and the engine isn't tapping like crazy or knocking. Want to die. Then it is the temp sensor or the gauge that is bad. A scanner will tell you.

The od light comes on the the transmission temp warning comes on in my 2000 dodge durango

Check transmission fluid level. Is there a manual Overdrive engagement button? If so you probably have a worn out wire from the switch to overdrive solenoid. I had a similar problem different car. Solution was the "spiral plastic" wire cover to cover the opening on the control wire and easy to get on the wire without having to cut and rejoin wires. Was supposed to be temporary but has lasted about 5 years. This may also be the issue with the Temp warning light. The wires may be parallel to each other. Hope this helps, good luck.

Check gages lights on

look at the instrument cluster for any other warning lights, check all your gauges as it is asking you to. there is a problem occurring somewhere elsewhere on the cluster. could be a warning light, or possible oil pressure gauge, temp gauge, fuel gauge ect

Motor shuts down when reaching normal operation temp

Sounds like the mass air flow sensor or the air intake temperature sensor. Sometimes just wiping out the throttle body/air intake can make all the difference

When i start my 99 dodge durango check gauge light come on

That means that one of the gauges are low. Or that something is wrong. Maybe the oil pressure is not coming up like it should. Or that the temp sensor is sending the computer a false reading saying that the temp is too hot. You will just have to look at the gauges to see which one is in the red.

1. That was the wrong thermostat.
2. You're low on coolant.

Transmission temp gauge and O/D light come on 2000 Durango.

Sounds like an overheated transmisson. The overdrive and temp lights are on because the overdrive is disabled due to a problem. There is a thermistor in the valve body that illuminates that light when the trans fluid temp gets too high. Check the fluid level and condition, If it's dark red and not pink in color it's burnt, which generally means that the clutches are smoked too. Probably time for a remanufactured transmisson.
