NO. the top radiator hose is where the thermostat is,r&r the bolts set the hose and the goose neck to the side remove the gasket and the thermostat, replace the new one in the reverse order.(pay attention to the direction of the thermostat when you install it.
The water pump loosen the belts, drain the radiator using the pet **** under the radiator,or you may use the bottom radiator hose, take it off the water pump and drain into your pan.r&r the bolts from your pump and remove the pump.Clean your gasket area and installl new one in reverse order.

cooling fans. either electric or thermo clutch(heat tightens up a coil spring to make it spin faster as needed) If it has electric fans then they may be going bad and not spinnig fast enough. if its the mechanical type with the thermo clutch, its not engaging strongly enough. much like and old stick shift car with a bad clutch.

How to replace the thermostat on 2001cadillac deville

4.6 Northstar V8. It is located on the rear of engine (driver side) in front. It is 1n the the waterpump housing cover. Remove airbox and intake tube and bottom radiator hose. 2 bolts(believe 10mm) on thermo housing. These systems are a lil finiky about air pockets....so fill slowly and let run at idle until operating temp and let cool and chk level.....fill as needed and repeat if needed.
