Engine on my 2000 silverado idles up after a while of driving. It idles at about 1200 RPM

i did that and it didn't help. It doesn't do it all the time. It first started out doing it once in a while, but now it seems to be every time once the engine gets warm. I heard that it might be the idle sensor on the throttle body. Could that be a source to the problem. I had it to the garage and it didn't do it the whole time it was there. They did a diagnostic test and a smoke test on the intake. Still could not find the problem.

spray the inside of the throttle body out with carb cleaner and see if it helps.

You need to check for intake vacuum leaks. Also did you have the battery disconnected before repair, if not disconnect the neg cable for 10 minutes to reset system to base settings.

Idel problem on 5.7 1995 silverado

You engine is TBI, It uses a MAP sensor check the vacuum line for crack and make sure yo have a good seal, The distributor also check and make sure the pick up does not have corrosion which causes the relutor to stick. As for the EGR it would cause a misfire, and yes the do fail. I am sticking with the IAC as a problem its a stepper motor and has a high failure rate, chack also the ECT (engine coolant temp sensor) for corrosion that gives false reading.

After getting my 95 GMC Sierra 1500 5.7L V-8 back from a failed emissions test I let their mechanic fix it( or pass smog) However, now when the truck is in park the rpm's are at 1200 about 300...

I had an 89 Chevy Silverado with a high idle problem, A lot of money later and a lawsuit against a repair shop that said they fixed it and they didn't caused early engine failure and they wind up paying for a new engine. Long story short, I found out the main cause was I had to replace the throttle body gasket because it was bad causing more air intake and the on board computer tried to compensate for the air by adding more fuel therefore, high idle. I hope this helped.
