Hello henryw710: My name is Roger and I will be glad to help you. The camshaft sensor should be located inside the distributor. Some would call it the pole piece. You did not say what year your truck was and the engine size you gave is that of a chevy. I assume it was a 5.9 or a 5.2 Both are located in the same location. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rat the quality of your answer as this is how we know your answer helped you. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

2006 Dodge Camshaft sensor code

Anyone with a scanner diagnosing 2006 dodge ram 4.7L listen up. I spent hours yesterday day chasing a false code from a camshaft sensor. It ended up being the EGR Valve was shorted out. Causing the darn thing to act like the rev limitor was acting up while giving the gas in the shop. The only code that came up was the camshaft sensor. Had my 5 volts and ground as well. Need to say I ate a camchaft sensor.

Diagnostic code P 340 and P 341 Camshaft Position Sensor Malfunction for a Dodge Ram Diesel 2500. What does it mean?

The Camshaft Position Sensor tells the PCM (computer) the position of the Camshaft Position. This Sensor sychronized along with several other Sensors including the Crankshaft Position Sensor the firing of the electronics to the spark plugs of each cylinder.
It is not difficult to replace and relatively inexpensive.
1. Disconnect the Negative side of the Battery,
2. Locate the Sensor and unplug.
3. Remove the Position Sensor retaining bolt.
4. Pull out the Sensor.
Replacement is reverse of above order.
Hint: use fresh engine oil on the end/sides of the Sensor especially around the rubber o-ring(s) to ease pushing the Sensor into proper position.

Cam Shaft Sensor Problems

Had the same problem before on my 04 Neon SXT...camshaft sensor is on left side of engine block, take out the battery and to the left of it (face car) is the camshaft position sensor. To change it you'll have to move a few hoses but its plan to see there on the left side of the engine...pretty easy remove and replace. Fixed my problem of car not going above 2k RPM when i replaced the sensor.
