Engine sputters when idling, also has trouble accelerating. Had been having trouble idling before, but now the problem has extended to acceleration and when driving. What is the malfunction and what kind...

It could be many different problems. Honda's are notorious for idle air control valves going bad. I would check the plugs and wires for the accelerating problem first. Also, you may want to check the fuel filter if the car has not had a tune up lately.

Sounds like a clogged fuel filter.

1990 Toyota Celica accelerating problems

I had this same problem. I replaced the spark plugs and that worked for awhile, but then the problem came back. I ended up replacing the distributor and rotor as well as the spark plug wires and that fixed it. Supposedly old spark plug wires don't work as well and you don't get enough spark.

One side note, I still have trouble accelerating with the AC on.
