1998 rl. why does my speedometer move while in park?

Are the brake lights working, the safety lock on the gearshift is operated by the brake lights, if they don't work you can't get it out of park. Sequence is turn on ignition, put foot on foot brake (brake lights come on, park lock disengages). Check the brake light fuse.

cars do start in neutral. and park so that's ok.
cranks but no start is lost spark.
did you check spark?

move steering wheel away from the curb and tranny will then go to park.

If your car isn't moving, the speedometer wont work. Make sure you are moving.

Seriously, a little more info would be nice.....but to start with, the speedometer cable is connected to the back of the speedometer and to the transmission. Have you removed the ends to see if there is any damage? You should be able to spin the cable end on the transmission and get the speedometer to register a speed.

Sounds like a bad bulb. Pull the cluster out and replace the burnt bulbs.

the gears on the speedometer are bad and somtimes they grab sometimes they grab right and some wrong just replace the speedometer motor or if u can the little gear.

I'm not sure this is what you wanted? You see the fuses and relay. Ground wires are black.

Check the transmission fluid first. it sounds like one of the clutch plates is sticking.

If you shift into second after you've stopped, can you get the car moving?
