Question about Ford F-150

1 Answer

Truck runs fine, except on take-off it hesitates and sometimes turns off. I have no problems starting up again, but when I step on the gas, it has a weak take-off most of the time.

Hey, Thanks for quick response. I've done both of those things and it still hesitates & sometimes turns off. This only happens at take-off. I've also replace the idle control and the TPS sensor. Engine was recently rebuilt. Help.

At the beginning, about a week ago, It read cylinder 1 and 5 misfiring. I did those repairs mentioned and cleared codes and ran it for about 175 miles. Checked for codes this morning again and it shows no codes present. The vehicle is a 2000 Ford F150 with a 4.3 V6 engine. Thanks

If it is Fuel Injected, You May try Carb / Injector Cleaner in Tank and Then RUN IT Hard ON FREWAY , If No Codes Are Present, Also Fuel Filter May Cause Hesitation.
IF Carberated>> (UNLIKLEY) Exelerator Pump is Most Likley the Cause

2001 explorer sport , fuel pump? vacuum leak? 619 scan tool data provided, any suggestions/solutions

The fuel pump is suspect but I believe there's also a fuel filter inline on the underside of the drivers side chassis. Fuel works off pressure so if the filter is clogged, the pressure remains between the fuel tank and the filter. Once the fuel has siphoned off between the filter and injectors, it dies but because there's positive pressure at the fuel pump, it won't come on until the pressure slowly seeps past the clog after hours. It's worth a look!

Why does it sometimes hesitate as I step on gas from a stop? The dash readout say traction active, once moving the truck runs fine.

A year, make, model and engine size would help. What is likely happening is a speed sensor is pickling up lower speeds leaving the traction control to think there are three tires spinning. It then applies the brakes to those three tires and reduces throttle. A high end scan tool will be the best bet to see the ABS data to determine exactly what is not reading correctly.

My 2001 dodge 3500 v8 gas truck will start fine when it is cold, it runs fine, when i turn it off i have to wait a while before it will start again. sometimes it will start when its warn and sometimes it...

Check the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail. Remove vacuum line after running, any trace of fuel in vacuum hose indicates defective fuel regulator diaphram. This will produce symtoms you describe. The fuel pressure in the rail leaks through the diaphram and causes flooding. Letting the truck sit clears the fuel from engine. As an alternative, try flooring the throttle while cranking hot, this will also will clear a flooded condition.

No power when going up hill

when was the last time the truck had a tune up? plugs wires air filter fuel filter and if it has over 40,000 miles a new drivebelt put some STP gas treatment in the gas tank and if this helps the problem replace the fuel filter; the fuel pump is in the gas tank and the fuel filter is underneath the truck normally on the driverside just under the door or the passanger side just in front of the rear tire in the frame
