Thanks for your help. I just wanted to add what I learnt while completing the job.
The fan was on the dash, behind the glovebox. I had to remove the glove box (6-8 screws..very simple)then removed and replace the fan(3 screws..also very simple)The wiring was a simple plug. Replaced the glovebox and 'voila'
The entire job took about 30 minutes.

*note* - you may have to force some cables and wire bundles out of the way when replacing the fan itself.

The motor is mounted on the firewall of the car. It has a wire harness, 3 bolts and a rubber hose that will need to be disconnected before you pull out motor.

Bad blower motor resistor normally located near the blower motor under the dash on the passenger side. Sometimes they are on the firewall under the hood on the passenger side.

Heater core or blower making noises

Not the core making noise it is most likely the blower motor or the fan cage attached to the blower motor... most blowers are attached under the dash on pass. side or under the hood at the pass. side firewall area attached by approx. 5/6 #8 metric small bolts opr 1/4 inche or the like, it has a small black vent hose attached to it that also needs to simply be pulled off ...this will give you an idea where the blower is, the fan cage once you pull out the blower and disconnect the electrical plug and ground wire is mounted on the blower motors shaft with a #10 or a 3/8 inch or the like nut retaining it on the shaft.

  2. Disconnect the blower motor cooling hose.
  3. Detach the blower motor electrical connector.
  4. Remove the blower motor-to-air housing mounting screws.
  5. Pull the blower motor out of the air housing.

2002 dodge ram 1500 ac works on hi only . works great on hi only

Hi, this problem isn`t to bad.Replace the blower resister,or resister module, located in the blower box, could be mounted outside under hood in firewall(near windshield)passengers side.It also could be mounted under dash very near blower in blower box,for this resister has to be cooled by the blower motor. This resister is the speeds for your blower.

Heater blower switch only works on high

I'd replace blower resistor, usually found under hood on firewall on passenger side, or on duct work, inside under dash on passenger side, close to blower motor.

Why the heater motor/blower control knob works only on high,if i put it in low/medium range, it will turn-off

Very common when heater blower motor "Resistor" goes bad. In most cases they are either located under hood on firewall, passenger side, or under dash, passenger side, near blower motor. If I can confirm on location of it, I'll get back to you.
