Question about 2001 Hyundai XG300

1 Answer

My Hyundai xg300 downshifts from 5th gear into 3rd gear. We have changed the mass air flow sensor and some other sensor that is attached to the transmission. We never wash the engine so it's not water on the electrical parts. Any suggestions?

Yeah... why did you change the MAF?... Someone tell you the MAF caused your transmission to shift from 5th to 3rd?... I don't think so!
Did the 'Check Engine' Light come ON? Whenever the 'CHECK ENGINE' light comes on, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). These codes identify the particular engine management system which caused the light to come on. You'll need to use/find an OBDII (On-Board Diagnostic) Scanner to retrieve any code which have been stored in the ECU computer. Afterward, we might be able to help you DIAGNOSE and perhaps eventually fix the problem.

Downshifted from 4th to 3rd and both gears went out?

get your codes first. as three things in your transmission can go wrong.the pressure sensor.the governor pressure sensor is failing.and your filter in the box very dirty and needing changed .so get the codes first cheaper.

Check engine lght on and 2 codes p0103 and p0112

P0103 HYUNDAI - Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit High InputPossible causes- Dirty mass air flow sensor
- Dirty mass air filter
- Mass air flow sensor harness is open or shorted
- Mass air flow sensor electrical circuit poor connection
- Intake air leaks

My daughter's 2001 Hyundai XG300 threw the P0171 and P0174 codes a couple weeks ago. While driving it myself, I noticed that the idle RPM was getting fairly low at time. After looking online about these,...

Most likely the Mass Air Flow sensor. I had a similar problem and the codes you have ring a bell. Follow the above link for more information.
Look on-line for the parts. I found one for around $70, but they are $320 at the parts stores.
It's easy to change
Best wishes!

We purchased a 2001 Hyundai XG300 when you start the car and hold the gas pedal to the floor it just putts, we have changed 3 sparks plugs, got any clue what could be wrong with this car

It is possibly the throttle position sensor or the Mass Air Flow sensor.
Probably, the position sensor is the culprit, especially when you are not moving. If it is, after a while you will have trouble even starting the car.
If all else fails, a mechanic should be able to quickly pinpoint the problem.
Best wishes!

More fuel consumpion

No codes? Checklist: MAF: Mass Air Flow Sensor, MAP: Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor, Engine Valves/Low cylinder compression, Fuel Injectors, Fuel Pressure, Tire pressure, vacuum leak(s), PCV: Polution Control Valve, Purge Control Solenoid Valve PCSV stuck open/leaking, Intake Air Hose leaking, Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor, Intake Air Temperature Sensor, etc. etc. etc..
Go to and register (vehicle by VIN). Afterward, you'll have access to technical information (manuals, wiring diagrams, service bulletins, etc) about your vehicle.

The electrical connection does have a clip that you will have to push in order to remove the sensor. Do not use any liquids to clean the MAF Sensor, compressed air only. Your vehicle will not run without it!

I need to clean the mass air flow sensor on my xg300

CRC makes two products that could be applicable: "Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner" and "Electronic Cleaner"

Be careful when removing the sensor and when spraying the piece. Allow it to dry (shouldn't take long at all) and reinstall the sensor. Have a friend drop off a can of the cleaner, which will probably cost about $6-8 per can.
