Most times this is caused by an internally bypassing clutch master cylinder. If fluid is full likely that is your problem. If fluid is low, check system for leaks and replace anything that is leaking, then bleed air as you would with a brake system. (bleed any time the system has been opened except when just adding fluid)

My 1995 Toyota tercel brake lights stay on even when the car is off

There is a switch/sensor located at you break pedal, when you hit the breaks this has a small pin that make positive contact telling your break lights to come on. It may be broken or stuck, check it.

Also check all the bulbs on your car, breaks and blinkers etc...

How do I locate my neutral saftey switch on my 1997 Toyota Tercel?

Normally, only automatic transmission cars are equipped with a neutral safety switch. There is a switch on the clutch pedal up under the dash that will not allow the starter to engage unless the clutch is depressed.

Manual transmission 91 honda crx will not go into gear shortly after start up or when vehicle is off.

Brian
I see this is an older post. I have a 90 Crx and was wondering if you still have the car and how you solved the problem?

Try different location on the clutch pedal to get it to start

If you look above the clutch pedal you should be able to see the operating switch, depress clutch pedal and see that there is clearane between the pedal and switch, It may be loose or require adjustment, the other option is to remove terminal block and bridge the terminals, this will delete the need for the switch and also the need to depress the pedal to start the motor, Regards Mike

Does the clutch pedal feel any harder or softer than ussual?it could be the clutch and pressure plate are worn or hopefully just that the master or slave cylinder is leaking. The master cylinder is under the hood opposite side to the steering wheel and slave cylinder at the gearbox

Transmission won't engage in Toyota Tercel

pop off the cap on your clutch reservoir, if it's empty fill it up, leave the cap off, and then pump the clutch 20 times to try to get air out, that should work.

Clutch won't engage

There is a problem with the pressure plate spring or possibly the throwout bearing is bound up,you should be able to pull the rubber boot from around the clutch fork and have someone depress the pedal, you should be able to see if it's a problem with the bearing.Unfortunatly the trans is probably going to have to caome off.

1989 Toyota Tercel 5 speed stick trouble starting

sounds like your clutch safety switch, the switch that keeps the vehicle from starting unless clutch pedal is depressed, is not working.. the correct thing to do would be to buy a new one.. on the other hand cutting the wires and wiring them together will work just fine.. but keep in mind the vehicle will then start in gear with out pushing in the clutch pedal so use extra precaution when starting if you decide to take this route.. hope i could help
