PRE-DIAGNOSTIC INSPECTIONBefore diagnosing ABS/TCS, perform a comprehensive visual inspection of system as follows.Check ABS/TCS wiring harness connectors for looseness. Check harness routing; pay particular attention to wheel speed sensor wiring harness routing. Check fuses No. 1D, 5B and 6B in instrument panel fuse block. Check fuses No. 1 and 2 in underhood fuse block. Check brake fluid level in master cylinder reservoir. Check brake fluid level in Pressure Modulator Valve (PMV) assembly reservoir. Ensure parking brake is fully released. Ensure parking brake switch is functioning properly. Always perform ABS/TCS system functional check before using DIAGNOSTIC CODE CHARTSThe EBCM/EBTCM has self-diagnostic capability, which can detect system failures. Fault codes stored by EBCM/EBTCM can be displayed using Tech 1 scan tester. There are no provisions for flash code diagnostics.Begin ABS/TCS diagnosis with PRE-DIAGNOSTIC INSPECTION procedure. If failures are found during pre-diagnostic inspection, perform necessary repairs, and proceed with ABS/TCS FUNCTIONAL CHECK. See Fig. 5 .If no failures are found during pre-diagnostic inspection, go to ABS/TCS FUNCTIONAL CHECK. See Fig. 5 . The ABS/TCS FUNCTIONAL CHECK will either indicate ABS/TCS is functioning properly or direct technician to various diagnostic procedures such as diagnostic charts, symptom diagnosis or BRAKE warning light diagnosis.CHART D - TRACTION OFF WARNING LIGHT ON CONTINUOUSLY & NO DTC SET (BUICK WITH UH8 OR U2A INSTRUMENT CLUSTER)Circuit DescriptionWhen ignition switch is first turned to RUN position, EBTCM goes through a self-test, which lasts 2-4 seconds. Powertrain Control Module (PCM) can also command EBTCM to set a Code 75 which will illuminate TRACTION OFF indicator.Traction control switch is located either on instrument panel center trim plate or driver's front door trim panel. How to restore 1st gear lockout from abs/trac. module acting up w/o replacing the very poorly designed unit that has been proven to cause worse braking/traction than an experienced driver can perform.

hi. does this sound familiar.

Anti Lock Brake System (ABS) problem. Has trouble code C1243.

1. Pin test power and ground to the Electronic Brake Traction Control Module (EBTCM).

2. Stress test the power and ground by using a high beam headlight or blower motor to put a load on the system.

3. If power and ground are OK, remove the EBTCM and hot wire the pump motor. If it runs OK and is quite, replace the EBTCM. If the motor is noisy replace both the Motor and the EBTCM.

What does it mean when 1999 Ford Explorer ABS warning light on dashboard comes on?

That means that the EBTCM has detected a problem within the system. The message indicates that a malfunction exists in the stability enhancement feature.

EBTCM (Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module) is an electronic control module that controls and operates the Anti-Lock brake system, Traction Control System and Stability system. If this module detects a problem, it "asks" the cluster to inform you by displaying a warning message.

You should have your car scanned for trouble codes with a scan tool, the Tech2 scan tool is preferred because other scan tools may not communicate with the EBTCM modules.

Hope helps (remember to rate this answer).

What does ebcm/ebtcm mean

An Electronic Brake Control Module, or EBCM, monitors the rotation speed of each wheel. The EBCM decreases the braking force to a wheel when it detects that the wheel is rotating more slowly than the other wheels. Additional details for GM vehicles in this link: absfixer.com/how_do_i_remove.

EBTCM is the Electronic Brake Traction Control Module device.

Good luck.

The abs light is off 50% of the time and on 50% of the time. when it's on it blinks. how do i fix it? brake pads and disks have been replaced.

First thing ABS is the Anti Locking Brake system, this has nothing to do with pads or rotors.

The ABS consists of a control module, pump & sensors.
Without having a scan tool to check to see which code is set you can't fix it.
Anytime one of the components listed above fails or is having a problem that will send a signal to the EBTCM (Electronic Brake Control Module) which cause the ABS light to come on.
You can spend thousands of dollars replacing parts before you get it right, and the light would still be on because you need the scan tool to clear the light once the problem is fixed.
It would be best to find a trusted mechanic to scan the codes & diagnose the problem.

The check engine light is on, the ABS, and the traction control light are on. I went and had it put on the diagnostic machine at autozone, the following codes came up P1700 and U2108(twice) autozone could...

The P1700 is just a request for the check engine light, and this is caused by the U2108. The U2108 is basically telling you that the Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module (EBTCM) is not communicating with the powertrain control module, or the transmission control module.
The very first thing we must do is verify that the fuses that power the ebtcm are not blown and that they are powered. At this point I would like you to verify that the fuse labeled ABS in the fuse block is not blown and that it is powered with the key in the on position.
I would also like you to verify that the fuse labeled V1 inthe power distribution box is not burnt and that this is powered also. After this we need to move to the ebtcm to verify that you have voltage at pins 15,17,18 and that you have a ground at 19 and 16.

This would verify that the ebtcm is getting the proper voltage supplies to operate. The end result of this may possibly be a faulty ebtcm, but at this point we really need to check these items prior.Feel free to contact me with any questions at this point! Thanks!

C1243 - BPMV Pump Motor Stalled1999 cadillac deville

BPMV = Brake Pressure Modulator Valve.

Part of the anti-lock brakes and traction control system.
The BPMV is located at the left hand front corner of the engine compartment, attached to the EBTCM (electronic brake control module).

CAUTION: For safety reasons, the brake pressure modulator valve assembly must not be repaired, the complete unit must be replaced. With the exception of the EBTCM ,no screws on the brake pressure modulator valve assembly may be loosened. If screws are loosened, it will not be possible to get the brake circuits leak-tight and personal injury may result.

2001 cadillac catera ebtcm removal how to

You need to remove the upper rad hose and the battery.
Then, use a torx to remove the 6 screws (hard to get at) which will remove the EBTCM from the brake modulator. You also must disconnect the two electrical connectors (the big one has a slide tab).
There are places you can send the module to and rebuild with warranty. I took a module from a 99' and installed it in my wife's 01'. Now the speedo, odometer, cruise and power steering work perfect and no TCM / ABS light.
