The first thing that needs to be determined is whether you are getting spark to the spark plugs. If there is no spark, then it needs to be determined if the coil is working properly and go from there. If there is spark, then look at a fuel delivery or some other possible problem. This kind of problem requires some detective work in order to narrow down the cause. Hope this helped and best wishes.

If battery is not fully charged could that cause engine to spin but not crank?

Spinning IS Cranking, they are the same thing. You mean cranking and not starting or firing. Old cars used to have a cranked handle that you inserted into the front of the car to turn the engine manually and start it. The cranked handle cranked the engine. History lesson as well :>)

If the battery is low, there may not be enough power to turn the engine and provide enough power to the ignition system. This is more of a problem in cold weather as the oil is more viscous and requires more amps to turn it over. Top it up with a battery charger.

Hi Teresa thats ththhe sign of a battery going bad, how old is the battery? You might want to have it load tested so you can trouble shoot further, there could be more than 1 issue.

Don't turn on

Good morning.
cars do not turn on, they have 4 steps. (ottocycle engine cars)
cranks, starts and runs, and sustains. (each step can fail)

my guess, is yours fails at the crank step , #1?
no crank ? diffr, car but steps are same.
http://www.fixkick.com/nocrank.html

step 1: do jumper cables crank car.? up? from a running other car?
if the battery is indeed charged, at 12.6v rested.
then hot wire the ST KEY line, does it crank now?

Yes?, then the KEY line is bad, ask how to fix.
no?, then the starter is bad. (hit it with a hammer. crank now)
hit the casing of the starter, this can make it wake up for a while.

trick 2, wiggle the A/T? gear shifter, as you CRANK iT.
trick 3,, start the car in neutral , this used near virgin contacts and can start many dead key line car.

Turn over and crank are the same ... if it turns over, it will crank ... if it is cranking, it is turning over. It may be cranking and thus turning over, but not starting, this is one kind of problem ... If it is not cranking, it is not turning over ... not cranking or turning over is generally an electrical problem though it could be a mechanical problem ...

If you want help here ... you must use not only proper descriptions of your trouble ... but it is also important to say what you want ... including what you want it for ... is this for a car, a truck, a motorcycle, boat, air plane????? Please be specific when you ask your question. Someone will help you if you can ask a proper question.
