Put front of car on jackstands or ramps. crawl under the front, right in the middle of the car... about 2 feet from front bumper should be your starter... Oh, disconnect negative side of battery first... remove wires from starter... remove the black plastic cover to get at the bolts (pull it forward), remove the two bolts holding starter slowly, careful not to drop the starter, they are heavy, awkward, and can leave quite a dent in your forehead...replacement is the reverse of removal.

Hope this helps and have a great eveneing!

Basically the starter motor is located under the intake manifold, you will have to remove a bunch of stuff to remove the manifold to get to the starter. It is a small gear reduction starter which isn't hard to replace once you get everything above it removed. But it is a pain to get to which is why I recommend taking it to a mechanic if you aren't up for the challenge though it is going to be a pretty expensive switch because of the labor costs. Let me know how this turns out.

Disconnect the positive battery cable..
Disconnect the wires from the starter..
2 bolts that hold the starter in place..
Remove them..
Connect the wires to new starter..
Put new starter in..
The starter will go in only one way so you cant mess it up..

Dont worry - not to dificult.. You can do it ;o)

Try changing the fuel filter, check the timing, check your spark plug wires, check for vacuum leaks. ie: loose or cracked vacuum hoses, loose intake bolts, etc.

1992 Cadillac Deville Sedan

i have two codes on my 92 cadillac sadan deville that read e 12 and e 96. i understand what they both mean. e12 is 'no distributor signal', and the other e 96 is 'torque convertor is overstrewsed'. i know that the toruque convertor is a big project itself, so im goin to send that into the professionals. but i might be able to fix the distributor, if it is the cap, or a false ground wire which hopefully it is. there is about 170,000 mi, and have gone threw alot of parts that i installed myself, but im not goin to let her go yet she still got alot of miles to go. i just need help on checking out the distributor cap for replacement.
