You don't have to take it to a dealer , there are bunches of other automotive repair shop's . Firestone , pepboys etc.. , plus independent repair shops . That's the place I would go , if I didn't have my own . Local shops that been around 20 years .
What engine did your's come with ? Could have come with a lot of different one's .

DTC P0008: Engine Position System Performance Bank 1
Circuit/System Description
The engine control module (ECM) tests for a misalignment between both camshafts on one bank of the engine and the crankshaft. The misalignment would be at an idler sprocket for either bank or at the crankshaft. Once the ECM learns the position of both camshafts on one bank of the engine, the ECM compares the learned values to a reference value. The ECM will set a DTC if both learned values for one bank of the engine are exceeding a calibrated threshold in the same direction.
Diagnostic Aids
• Inspect the engine for any recent engine mechanical repairs. An incorrectly installed secondary timing chain can cause this DTC to set.
• A single failed camshaft actuator or actuator solenoid will not cause this DTC to set. This diagnostic algorithm is designed to detect an alignment condition between a primary intermediate sprocket and the secondary timing chain, or the alignment between a primary intermediate sprocket and the crankshaft. Either condition would cause the camshaft timing for both cams on one bank to be off an equal number of degrees.
• The presence of DTCs P0008 and P0009 along with P0016, P0017, P0018, and P0019 indicates a possible condition with the primary timing chain and the alignment between both intermediate sprockets and the crankshaft. Or, the crankshaft reluctor wheel has moved and is no longer referenced to top dead center (TDC).
• Observe the scan tool CMP Desired, Actual, and Angle Variance parameters before a DTC sets. This may help to isolate whether a condition is specific to one camshaft, one bank, or caused by a condition with the primary crankshaft timing.

Your public library will have a manual covering your mechanical repair. Moreover, they have the automotive shops online software called AllData. It is the best auto technician database available today. You can print out specific troubleshooting procedures, diagrams, step-by-step istructions, and soforth. The typical person cannot afford to pay for this service, just automotive dealerships, etc... that is why the public library made it available to everyone and for free to view and print out material. This should Fixya! Good Luck!

Look for a plastic plug directly under key in bottom of column. Under plug is a switch take small philips screwdriver & push on switch while turning key backward to take out.

Check the gas cap, also,it could mean the evap system is not working,or you have run out of gas recently,if all this checks out ok,then the tank is not venting properly.

Hi, the car seems too new to need a converter. Sometimes rich operation can cause the same trouble code (P0420 or P0430). Rich operation can also cause carbon buildup and can cause the converter to wear out prematurely. This is one way the 2 problems might be related. I recommend you have your fuel pressure checked at the rail and verify proper operation of the fuel pressure regulator. There is a schrader valve on the fuel rail (first remove the intake manifold cover to gain access to the fuel rail) to test the pressure. You can probably borrow a fuel pressure gage from autozone, if you want to do this your self. I don't have an exact spec for your car, but 65 psi is the usual high end for fuel pressure. If yours is higher, you may need a new regulator. You might also want to clean your MAF sensor with a spray electrical parts cleaner. To do this, remove the air filter and spray cleaner inside the air duct toward the engine. You can probably see the sensor then if you can see into the pipe. The MAF sensor is a primary input to the fuel mixture, so it can also cause a rich operation. Please let me know if you have questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

Hello, this code indicates a problem with the cam timing. in most cases the timing chain is the problem. the engine control module can no longer adjust cam timing to the proper spec while running. this normally requires the timing chain to be replaced. this is covered under the 5 year 100,000 mile warranty thru GM
