Are you saying that you went into the house and left the engine idling for 1 hour
charging systems seldom at idle as the voltage produced does nor exceed required voltage required to charge the battery

SOURCE: My 2001 Olds Integre will not start, but later does start.

This may be a problem with the ignition switch. The ignition switch feeds power to many of the different systems- including the starting system and the dash.A low voltage output of the switch will not allow the starter relay to engergize, along with many other odd problems. A way to check this is that when it is acting up, turn the ignition key back and forth very quickly many several times, or tap and the head of the key with a small hammer. These things will normally cause a faulty ign switch to correct itself for the time being.

SOURCE: 2000 olds intrigue. I had battery light come on,

I think the diode block in the alternator is on it's way out. The output voltage from the alternator should be approximately 14 volts. When the alternator output is lower than the battery output, the car runs on the battery until it is depleted. That is why the car stops.

Very basically, it means that either the alternator output voltage is lower than the battery voltage, or the battery voltage is lower than the alternator output voltage. If the light gets dimmer as you rev up the engine, then you most likely have a problem with the alternator. If it gets brighter, then the battery is most likely bad. google_protectAndRun("ads_core.google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad);

Something is draining my battery 134,000 M

IT costs nothing to have a load test done on the battery to check for a dead cell which your problems point to. While the engine is running the alternator will be handling the power requirement but the battery will not supply the power required to start.

My daughter has a 2000 stratus... she drove it the other day and it was fine. She went to start it tonight and the interior lights came on but the car would start. we tried to jump It but it still did...

You should know how old the battery is

They can last 3 years or 9 years

You could have it tested at parts store

If over 5 years old just replace with the
largest cca rating for that size or group battery

A good battery is about $120.00

Check the cables for corrosion & being
tight.

Jumping a dead battery can be a dangerous
proposition if any cells are shorted inside

That symbol means low voltage in the system, you have a dead or defective battery. These new sealed batteries can go out of the blue, starts fine and then a few minutes or hours later nothing, no crank no start. You can confirm the battery is the problem by honking the horn, it will dribble out a noise or not work at all if the battery is dead or nearly dead.

I'm thinking its the battery. Heat kills batteries. You said it wont jump start. That's a dead ringer for a bad battery. It may have enough juice to power some things, but wont run the starter, or the fuel pump, or the ignition(spark). Try a new battery and let me know!

The 12 volt battery(LUCAS 065/3) on my FORD FIESTA 1100cc is 4 years old, in that time i have only driven 1,600 miles as my journeys are usually very local. I make sure i use the car twice a week to keep...

Running so few miles has accelerated the aging of the battery - the battery never had a chance to fully recharge in such small trips -  so now you have to replace it a year sooner than usual.
Just replace it.

I have a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier. It was running fine until yesterday. It won't turn on. No light, no sound nothing. It's dead. Even the remote lock and unlock doesn't work.

If you're lucky, it's just something simple like a light was left on and it drained the battery, and just charging it will fix everything [and making sure to turn off all lights etc...]

Recharging will take some time (probably overnight as a minimum; maybe an hour before even the remote door locks work again).

If the battery is over 5 years old, you may want to consider replacing it anyway, but once there is a fully charged battery in place, and you've made sure that all lights/accessories are turned off and/or unplugged if it is still dead again the next day, there is a problem somewhere with the electronics.

I'm not too sure how to narrow it down from there as the only car I've seen a battery drain with nothing on/plugged in, is on a 37 year old Italian car [on which such problems are all but expected], perhaps having the codes read (done for free at most parts stores), will reveal something... Other than that, it may just have to be taken in for service (unless someone else here can point you in the right direction)
Best of luck

Holden Rodeo 2001, check engine light keeps coming on!?

I'm having same problem on my 2000 model rodeo 4wd 3.2L V6. Other day check engine light came on. I checked engine bay nothing abnormal, or power loss. Next day light was gone. 2 days later driving, a sudden loss of power and light came up. After idling for a couple of minutes, drove off with light still on but all power back. 1 hour later of faultless driving loss of power for a minute or so. Engine temp normal. Had break for 1/2 hour and set off for last hour of journey without fault except check engine light still on. Following dayon startup light went out???
