replace, (redesign it,) sure, they do every year and for sure programming , i dont understand this question, is this a history question?
is there a symptom you are working, why not post that first.???
and full drive line spec. we cant guess. it. 1995 tells zero.
yes, the PCM did do BCM like duties, even in 1996, but there was no BCM (by name) on many years.
your question varies by model..etc.
but the FSM covers this.
as does alldata.com
it varies by engine, trans, security options and many other options)
by country (export model, Canada model?) yes the www is huge.
by 4wd options,awd?
by what transmission. (mines a 6speed M/T)
im not sure why you ask this, curious, or swapping parts.'
why? "context really does help dont you know?"
you can do your own research here. at alldata.com
see them all, see when they all changed.
in general (experience) all cars move the TCM in to the ECU
at about 1997 (not all) and renamed it to PCM.
but not all , and not all transmissions.
so why worry this.
in all cases you must deal with the failure regardless of what box it resides. (fact)
BCM, body controller.
here is a free FSM.
you can rattle through these, ?
in 2007 , the BCM changed radically in most jeeps.
the 1996 tHE PCM does BCM duties, like sends all data from the PCM to the dash cluster brain, via the 2 wire CCD comm network.
the 5 year FSM for 96 to 2001 shows no BCM
so 2002 must be first year.
if you have a symptom, or need FSM facts the above has some.
but to me it dont matter
both boxes are computers.
if the inputs are wrong, so will be the output.
for now and forever.
