Question about 2003 Kia Spectra
This is very common with these cars the shift shaft goes through the aluminum case below the neutral safety switch then is exposed 3 inches befofre it goes into the transmission to shift the case is supposed to be a guide this corrodes you need to use a silicone based lubricant to free it up. Have some one spray under the switch while you hold the brake (key on engine off) and move the shifter from park to first approximately 2 min or thirty times

You may have bent theneutral safety switch, if this is automatic, it is in the console by shifter.
