2007 Jeep Commander will not start

I have a 2007 Jeep Commander that will not start. I put the key in the ignition, turn it, the lights come on, there is a clicking sound and it won't start. Any ideas?

Check the battery cables, then go to the starter relay, then the starter, (If the lights are bright when you turn them on)

    Should add;
    There are two types of starters used on the 2007 Jeep. One has a solenoid mounted right on the starter, just like a Chevrolet would use. The other style has a magnetic switch, (Starter relay), mounted separate from the starter.

    My reference above to check the starter relay, was to the starter type that uses it. (If your Jeep does you'll be singing to yourself, because the starter relay is usually mounted in an easy access point. Fender well, or close by.
    The starter that has a solenoid mounted to it, requires removing the starter from the vehicle. Test the starter as a unit, or open the solenoid to diagnose it's condition)

Check both terminals on the starter! One will have constant power in every key position, the other will have power in the crank position! Easy test with a voltmeter (will have approx. 11-12 volts) or even a test light!

Hey Anon, Is this a total electronic key,,(push button start)..if so, its an electrical issue. If its a standard key urn ignition. try some DRY graphite on the key.. it will lubricate the switch without the mess of liquids... put the key in and out several times, put some more dry graphite on the key and repeat.. give this some time to work,, if this does not improve the switch.. its time for a new switch assy,

Hi, I've got a 2008 Jeep Commander, with a key that won't turn in the ignition. Any suggestions on how to get it to turn?

Hi, Try moving the steering wheel while you move the key. The lock is jamming the key. After you get the key out. put some Graffite lube in sold at most hardware stores.

2007 commander wont start changed battery and terminals just get a click but if i put a battery charger on start mode the truck will start please help

Looks like you may have a bad starter. It may be weak and demanding extra power to turn the engine over. That's where I would start. I hope this helps you and good luck.

2006 jeep commander makes a clicking noise when I turn ignition, all lights and radio come on but car won't turnover, what is it?

I have had this issue 2 times, both times it was the battery having damaged/dead cells. You can sometimes get it to start by putting your foot on the break, turning the key to the on position, putting the car in neutral then starting it. I purchased my Commander new in 2006 and have had to replace the battery 2 times since, both times this was the initial symptom. I have 120K miles and still love my Commander

I started my Jeep 5.7 Hemi with my remote starter.

the remote start my have still been sending the transponder signal to the computer when you put your key in the ignition it sent a signal to the computer as well which would have given you the problem, all you would have needed to do is open your door wait 5sec which would kill the accessory because you have your door open then start the car with your key

Jeep commander clicks once and won't start. It is

The starting issue is the same I had on my 2005 Grand Cherokee. The wire coming from the ignition (key area) to the Starter the connection is bad. The shop replaced the lead and it is perfectly fine... it cost $70. I dont know the techincal terms.. but it was easy to fix- the problem is water and junk gets splashed up by the front tire and corroded the wire into the sarter.... that's all it was.
Good luck.
