It sounds like the electrical ignition switch is faulty. It will be mounted on the transmissiom near the shift cable. If the contacts short out the car is dead in the water in the matter of speaking. An OHM Meter can be used to test this switch if it is bad if you have the color codes of the wires to check by with for the starters circuit
