Question about 1987 Toyota Supra

Open Question

My 87 Supra non-turbo auto trans is winding up to 3500 RPMs before it slips out of low gear, and continues to wind up to 2400 RPMs before it slips out of 2nd into high gear. Even at this point it seems as though the RPMs are running to high, prior to this instance she would change gears from take-off to low at 2000 RPMs at 20mph, and then again into 2nd at about 1800 RPMs at 40mph, then finally she would kick into high. Now the engine just winds up to about 3500 RPMs before she even kicks into 2nd. Can you help?

Transmission slips in 2nd gear winds up rpms to 7000

Any slipping that you notice & RPM Flairs, the damage
is already done

You can not drive any vehicle more than 10 miles to home
or a shop, when they slip

Whatever was the start & cause of some of the problems,
now won't matter much, as there is a very good change you
will need to have the trans rebuilt

You could have a tran shop check it out,but it will
most likely have to come out to even get at any

We have an 87 4Runner. We replaced the turbo 4cyl

It should only start in P and N. Is this a 4 wheel drive? Check the transfer case if it is. If not check to make sure torque converter bolts were put in. If they weren't it won't do anything.

Timing Dpecs for Toyota Supra 87 6 cylinder

1987 non-turbo: 10 deg Before Top Dead Center (BTDC) @700 rpm
1987 Turbo: 10 deg BTDC @650 rpm.

To set the timing, you will need to connect a jumper wire between terminals E1 and TE1 on the diagnostic terminal. This diagnostic terminal is located just aft of the engine compartment fuse box. It is a black plastic box marked "diagnostic" on the cover, which flips open to reveal the terminals inside. There is a diagram on the inside of the cover which explains the terminal positions. On the Turbo model, you need to remove the forward section of the engine cover to gain access to the number one spark plug wire.

Its slipping ? Like the engine rpms go up and no go ?
Check the trani fluid - while the car is running in park..
Trani fluid is messured in pints on the dipstick - not quarts.. Be careful not to over fill..
Note; If trani is low on fluid to long and slipping to long - it is causing damage..

Hope this helps !!
Rate me good ;o)

Auto trans a bit sluggish and seems to make a whining? sound

When you hear it winning like that its usely because the trans. filter is resticting the flow of oil thru it, because its getting pluged up and the oil is wore out, might be a good time to have trans. serviced, Before it really cost you$$$$.
