Question about 1991 Nissan 240SX

1 Answer

I have a fuel problem with my 91 240sx. It's burning gas like if it was leaking but there is no leak. It hasn't gone 200 miles and it's already on empty. This car use to go over 300 miles on a tank full. The exhaust smells kind of rich, I think. When car is warmed up and you rev it and let up on the pedal it almost dies. What is the problem??

You may want to check the oxygen sensor if it is still working. It tells the ECU if the engine is not burning the gasoline efficiently. You may also want to have the injectors checked if the O2 is ok.

Why poor fuel mileage and hard starting

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak. Although, it could be bad o2 sensors. If the computer sees that the o2 sensors are showing lean then it will increase fuel flow to try to even out, which causes it to burn more gas.

Heavy gas smell on 2000 jaguar vanden plas

check for a bad fuel filter or a leaking rubber line after the fuel pump . To dump that much fuel so quickly ,the fuel pump is pumping to a broken /split hose or steel line.

My 1997 town car is burning to much fuel not leaking it but burning it i can smell the gas when driving it

It can be several things. The engine automatically sets to a RICH mode for cold starts. It will stay in RICH until a temperature sensor warms up. There are sometimes 2 sensors with one for the dash and the other for the engine controls.
Next would be a faulty fuel pressure regulator keeping the pressure too high. Or dirty fuel injectors failing to close properly.
Finally, air leaks in the intake manifold will make the O2 sensors dump fuel to restore the fuel ratio. Check with water spray bottle on intake seams while engine is running.

Almost sounds like it is leaking fuel. Do you smell gas at anytime? Also do you know if the fuel gauge is reading correctly?

Why does my 04 caravan drink a lot of gas?

Your fuel sending unit in tank is bad,may be incorparated with fuel pump or by itself.Car isn't going to drink gas that fast unless leaking. If tank reads a half, fill up to see if it's really half empty, and if it is half full, then your driving a gas hog.

The gas gauge on my 92 Dodge Grand Caravan stopped working over the past two days. Two days ago it seemed to be fine. Yesterday it indicated that I had a quarter tank when it should have been 3/4 like the...

worth checking the fuel tank for holes or there might be some fuel delivery pipes leaking badly. Or it might be an O2 sensor not giving correct signal to ecu thus consuming so much fuel.

Burning too much gas

You could have a few things going on here. I'll assume that the "check engine" lamp is on as it is running extremely rich which can be due to a leaking fuel pressure regulator, bad oxygen sensor[s], stuck fuel injector, plugged air filter system, worn ignition components, or restricted exhaust...just to name to most common items that go bad. I would start by having the service codes read and then begining testing and diagnosing based on that information

Missing Oil????

Sounds like a broken oil ring and your burning it. If so you can bet the converter is already shot.

Have a Cylinder Leak Down Test ,done ,to determine the engine, integrity. Also look at the exhaust gas emissions with an analyzer. Pull the spark plugs, that will tell you which cyl is oil fouled
