Symptoms bad egr valve

Bad EGR valves can cause surging issues but the check engine light would turn on to indicate the problem after a few hours of driving. I would suspect the injectors or an intake maniofold vacuum leak is present.

Idle surges

surging problem could be vacuum leak check all vacuum hoses on intake manifold.hook vacuum gauge to check engine vacuum could have intake manifold leak or could have bad spark plugs and wires.distributor cap and rotor need replacing.ignition timing off.if all is good clean fuel injectors and change fuel filter.if fuel pressure low or pump failing engine will surge real bad.if your air flow sensor bad or egr valve bad the check engine light will turn on.best have vechicle hook to code scanned check emission control system.many things cause engine surge dirty fuel injector faulty fuel pressure regulator have vechicle code scan to save from guessing spending way too much money.

It could if its bad enough, but it will also display other problems as well. Hard start when hot, pre-ignition loss of power.

How do you know if your spark plugs are the problem?

bad spark plug or bad wire will cause one cylinder not fire cause engine to surge.but change spark plugs and wires, if engine still surge have fuel filter changed, check fuel pressure weak fuel pump will cause engine surge.if you see check engine light flashing code scan for faulty TPS SENSOR OR FAULTY FUEL INJECTOR OR BAD IGNITION COIL.FAULT IN THE PCM.

200 altima with misfire, replaced plugs and wire, still misfire, smell raw gas

Hi James, I'm glad to help!

James, there are many things that can cause a misfire from severe vacuum leaks too mechanical problems. The first step is to do a "Compression Test" to see if your miss is related to valve or ring issues. If you do have low compression then your need to do a "Cylinder Leak Down Test" To determine where the lose is coming from. If there are NO problems found with compression then your next step would be to check "FUEL PRESSURE" because the lack of proper fuel pressure can also cause misfires. If fuel pressure is not the issue then your next step would be to check to make sure your injectors are getting the correct power and ground by using a noid light to test each one. If you find that there are NO issues with the injector circuit, then your next step would be to remove the injector rail, turn the key on while watching the injector spray patterns to see if its spraying evenly and there are no drips after the injector turns off. Because large amounts of fuel dripping from the injector will also cause misfires. This should be enough to help you in the right direction of finding the problem. Hope this helps and have an awesome day James.

My 99 Ford taurus tends to acellerate for a few seconds when Im driving at a low speed or slowing down..Why does that happen?

HI. there can be many issues here that can cause what you are experiencing at this time. I will list some areas that you should inspect below.

1. Inspect the fresh air intake hose. this hose may be clogged or damaged. replace if needed.
2. Inspect the Fuel pump. This device may have low pressure at this point and, during a correction when in transit, it will cause a surge. this low pressure state can be caused by low voltage or a bad pressure regulator as well. inspect this device thoroughly. replace if needed.
3. Inspect the Intake Manifold Gasket. this gasket may be leaking, worn or, damaged. any issues with this particular gasket will cause surges(erratic Accelerations). replace if damage is shown.
4. Inspect the fuel filter for clog's. if the filter is clogged, it will cause surges as well. replace if needed.
5. Inspect each fuel injector for malfunctioning properties. if the fuel injector(s) are worn or dirty, this will cause many issues with the idle and acceleration as well. test accordingly.
6. Insect all O2 sensors for there operational values. these sensors, if malfunctioning, can cause surging as well. test accordingly for wiring issues and defective sensor housings.(if the O2 sensors are bad, you will have a check engine light on)..

You will find the issue in one or more areas above. inspect thoroughly in each listed area above for faults.

Please rate and god bless:)
