Question about 2002 Chevrolet S-10

1 Answer

2002 S10 4 cyl 5 speed manual trans. Truck will not start, no power to starter, or starter relay, when turning key odometer readout goes blank in run position, and fuel gage appears to not power up aswell. Battery is new, and fully charged, have tried a known good ignition switch, and clutch switch. Funny thing, this truck has failed to start randomly a few times in the last few years, but try again and it works, just not now, hasn't started in 2 weeks. Doesn't crank or click ....nothing, dash lightes up, an all just no start

Can you start it by jumping the starter or the relay?? It could be the Body control module.

I have a96 isuzu trooper just had the starter checked and its good but still not doing anything when i stick key in theignition to start could it be the security system

NO CRANK. 96 USA car,(are my answers) check all fuses 1st !
C1 and FL1 and FL3 fuses good?
4wd ? or 2wd. auto or stick shift?
which engine? size? and cyl count....??????? 2.6 or 3.2liters?
wiring varies by engine type, so i guess more....
Does it crank ok with jumper cables (?) to a running donor car?
can be lots of things, gee the IMMO light in the dash is clear.
is it glowing? (the operators guide covers that.)
is this a USA car or Canada? some are different.
got a voltmeter even a $10 walfart meter works perfect.
or do you want to gue$$ and go broke fast. its your cash but/?.......
3.2 v6 shows no IMMO pins on the PCM...... so...?? in 1996

  1. battery dead, or discharges or terminals at 4 ends bad on cables.
  2. Fuses good.?
  3. turn key does CEL lamp glow?(cluster) if not , its not going to start with a dead ECU.
  4. no is the IMMO lamp glowing.
  5. key to start, (crank pos) silent.? now shift to Neutral like the the operators guide shows, cranks now? (a/t trans and no trans stated, so.... i guess away at what is there......
  6. does the starter relay close cranking, if not, work back from that and dont blame the starter, motor. fuse C1 runs this relay. is C1 good. or FL1 or FL2 fuse blows,
  7. ill now show the schematic (wild guessing engine and transmission..!!!)
this is the cranking path, (good starter and battery and cables)
the top of the drawing is the main power 12v feed from FL1 and FL2 fuses. (mains)
then you turn the switch to start
and 12v goes to fuse C1. got that?
then to the a/t box PRNDL switch. and in park or neutral
the 12vcc passes (10 to 12.6) cranking, or more if starter dead.
goes to the starer relay. the relay closes. does it?
if not it will never ever crank the starter.
if you have manual trans, the part in ? below is a clutch switch (pedaL )

NO ANTIHEIFT OPTION.
the bottom of the coil in starter relay is grounded. full time.
if you have antitheft option the Antitheift module makes up that ground. if happy.
so if the pin 5 on relay is 12vdc(dead relay) then the IMMO is unhappy. good luck fixing that.....

if IMMO not happy,
we then try both keys, lost your spare?
oops.....

one voltmeter and 15min work , or 10 less if IMMO lamp glows or flashes.
does it?
my post assumes, all things can fail, lacking, good input on dash lamps....

My 2012 ford focus will not start

Could be a faulty ignition switch, could be a starter relay.

Truck does not start or crank what do i need to check

Pull off the small solenoid wire to the starter, and check for voltage there, with key held in cranking position. If power there, the solenoid or starter needs testing. If no power to solenoid with key in crank, the start circuit from ignition switch to the solenoid will have to be checked-the starter relay and the park/neutral switch (or, the clutch switch if manual trans.).

My 2003 Saab 9-5 Aero 4-cyl Turbo Won't start. However, I have power in car, lights windows and radio works. But it won't turn-over. It could be Starter or Starter Relay. I can't find out

Ok, those systems might still work because the not require as much energy as the starter. Check the Battery Voltage with a good Voltmeter. If below 12, there might be your problem!

2001 blazer wont crank, headlights come on when key is off,can get truck to run after taking cover of starter relay, and fuelpump relay turn key on, and manually push relays to start.

At the moment, I'm only talking about starter relay. The starter relay has two sides, the load side and control side. The load side is that line with arrow, terminal 30 and 87, terminal 30 is hot all the time, plus, see that fuse on the load side. If you unplug the starter relay, key in the on position, on position is where dash lites come on, Then use jumper wire between terminals 30 and 87, at the least it should crank the starter motor and it might start. If you try that, make sure tranny is in park or neutral and parking brake is set.
If you get a reaction, the problem should be on control side of starter relay, right side in the picture. Terminal 85 and 86, the control side needs voltage and ground. You can see crank fuse, goes hot with key in the crank position, not only check fuse check for voltage on fuse circuit. As you can see, on the control side the neutral or clutch switch, depending on the tranny, is involved The ground for the control side is a chassis ground. As far as the fuel pump, other than the initial prime, fuel pump will not run w/o rpm signal, you have to crank it to get rpm signal.

Its the ignition starter switch not the ignition key switch part of it i beleive is mounted down by the fuse box.Go to www.rockauto.com and you can see a picture of it maybe that can help you find it.Could be down around bottom steering column.

check for power to the starter at the starter's connectors while you have someone turn the key. If there is power, change the starter. If not check your ignition switch, (manual trans)clutch pedal switch, and starter fuses/relays. Hopefully this helps

Greetings!

Let's keep things simple to start with... Check the battery that it has sufficient charge. (I did say to keep it simple). Ensure the gear selector is in Park or Neutral if equipped with an automatic trans, or depress the clutch pedal if equipped with a manual trans.

Lastly, in keeping things simple... check all the fuses and fuse links (special fusible wire) that power is available to your vehicle's electrical system.

With a test light, check the starter relay with the key in start position is energising the starter relay... bypass the starter relay if no power is present. if the starter operates, you now know the problem is located within the start control circuit (from the key switch through the starter relay to ground via a neutral safety switch (auto) or clutch switch (Manual).

finding the fault should be quick with a circuit diagram.

Cheers, Jay
