Question about 1993 Buick LeSabre

1 Answer

Starts but won't run after 5 min

My car will start every time, runs for a while(warms up) then dies. I've replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, Ignition module, oxygen sensor, and new plugs. What's next? Did the test, let it run, dies, take #1 and #6 coil wire off, still gets spark. Baffled?

Is it getting fuel after it dies?

  • Anonymous Mar 22, 2014

I replaced almost all fuel- and ignition related systems and components, but the sparks are still sooty (fuel fouled, all 8 of 'em) and it doesn't run well, only a few seconds after ignition it is ok, but then it starts shuddering and stops if it runs at all. What I did so far is replace the entire ignition system, ignition coil, rotor, cover, spark wires, sparks, fuel injectors, fuel pressure valve, fuel pump, carburetor, joke and maybe more, but the result is always the same. I tested all wires, sparks, compression, injectors, fuel pressure, but I don't succeed with getting the car running

About 350 miles into a trip, car started running rough, loosing power, then would surge and run ok for a minute and begin problem again. after about three times it died altogether, and won't start....

There are MANY things that can cause this type problem...

BUT, If the cause of your problem is no fuel getting to the engine, and you've check the fuel pump (not just the relay, you need to make sure the pump is ACTUALLY pumping fuel), try checking the fuel filter?

Fuel pressure intermittently drops causing sputter and die.

check for 12v constant at your fuel pump if you are not getting that replace your relay.
if you are getting 12 volts at your fuel pump the fuel pump is possible to run tuel it gets warm then shut down to a lower rpm I would then replace the fuel pump

89 regal won,t start but after 5 or 10 min. runs great

sounds like your fuel pump is going out. One thought might be that the fuel filter is causing enough resistance to over heat the pump. I would check the fule pressure to determine a free flow of fuel.

1985 Toyota pickup 22r non cali emissions ( Drives then dies no fuel in carb)

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the rubber fuel lines being old and cracked. The hoses would warm up and fuel would squirt out of the cracks. I had to replace three fuel line hoses and it has been running great ever since. Good luck.
