Question about 1995 Buick Riviera

I have a 95 riv non sc. The ses light comes on generally after it rains. Runs great and good milage. Has an obd II connection but can't read the codes. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Steve

    I've gone thru all harness and everything is tight.
    I have noticed some rust around the gas filler cap, could this maybe cause a non seal problem? That miht be part of the troubleg

    Sounds like you have an exposed sensor somewhere in the system. Have you checked all plugins and harnesses under the hood and anywhere else that might be exposed to the weather??

What year an make vehicle ? Before 1996 you can do that on some make vehicles , not all ,GM cars mostly ! 1996 an above need scanner for all vehicle makes !

Cannot reset (shut off) SES light after repair


You may have to wipe the ecu by a pro. Or the repair wasn't done correctly either or would work

Service engine soon light is on


Have the engine's obd-II computer scanned with an obd-II scanner at autozone or advance auto parts, or by your own obd-II scanner that you can buy for under $100 at Walmart or Sears.

This will help to identify which circuit is bad on the vehicle, or what system is causing the SES light to go on.

Ignition Coil K Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction

ALL P0xxx codes are universal for ALL OBDII - equipped cars
(every car sold in America since '96 model year; and a few mfr's prior to that).

If your '95 is OBD-II, that's the code.
BUT, yours *might* be the same goofy "OBD-I.5" that GM put into '94 & '95 GA's; those sockets aren't OBD-II compliant, and God may not even know those old codes.

BTW, codes with P1xxx are manufacturer-specific.

I assume you are saying you have a check engine light illuminated.

Most auto parts stores will read the OBD II code(s) for check engine lights at no charge. The codes they read will give you an idea of what the problem is.

OBD 1.5 OBD 1.5 refers to a partial implementation of OBD-II which General Motors used on some vehicles in 1994 and 1995 (GM did not use the term OBD 1.5 in the documentation for these vehicles - they simply have an OBD and an OBD-II section in the service manual.)
For example, the 94-95 Corvettes have one post-catalyst oxygen sensor (although they have two catalytic converters), and have a subset of the OBD-II codes implemented. For a 1994 Corvette the implemented OBD-II codes are P0116-P0118, P0131-P0135, P0151-P0155, P0158, P0160-P0161, P0171-P0175, P0420, P1114-P1115, P1133, P1153 and P1158.[1]
This hybrid system was present on the GM H-body cars in 94-95, W-body cars (Buick Regal, Chevrolet Lumina ('95 only), Chevrolet Monte Carlo ('95 only), Pontiac Grand Prix, Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme) in 94-95, L-body (Chevrolet Beretta/Corsica) in 94-95, Y-body (Chevrolet Corvette) in 94-95, on the F-body (Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird) in 95 and on the J-Body (Chevrolet Cavalier and Pontiac Sunfire) and N-Body (Buick Skylark, Oldsmobile Achieva, Pontiac Grand Am) in 95.
Depending on the year and the vehicle, a car with the OBD 1.5 system may have either the older OBD-I connector, or the newer OBD-II connector, but they are electrically identical to each other.[citation needed]
The pinout for the ALDL connection on these cars is as follows:

An OBD1.5 has also been used on Mitsubishi cars of '95 '97 vintage.
An OBD1.5 has been used in some 1995 Volkswagen VR6's (Juice Box's GTI)
