Hello aperez657: My name is Roger and I will help you. The vehicle has only one fuel filter. The filter is part of the fuel pump assembly. To replace the filter you will need to remove the fuel pump from the fuel tank. You can remove the pump with out dropping the fuel tank. It is a chore though. (1) You need to disconnect the battery. (2) Remove the front seats.(3) Remove the front scuff plates.(4) Remove the rear scuff plates.(5) Remove the lower console cover.(6) Loosen the park brake lever bolts.(7) Partially peel back the carpeting until the service hole covering appears. (8) Remove the following in this order. (1) Service hole cover (2) Electrical connector (3) Disconnect plastic fuel lines (4) Remove fuel pump bolts. Reverse procedures to reinstall the pump.
Unfortunately the fuel pump is inside the fuel tank...I have found the best way to remove the pump is to take the entire bed of the truck off..the reason is the straps that hold the fuel tank up have bolts that hold the strap to the frame rail..in my experience..these bolts will snap off , leaving you more work to drill them out an so on..if you do decide to remove the bed there are 8 bolts holding it to the frame...once the bolts are removed ,you want to make sure you unplug the harness for the rear lights and also disconnect the fuel inlet assembly, then you can slide it back just far enough to gain access to the top of the fuel tank..The fuel pump assembly(also called fuel delivery module) will have a large "C" type clip holding it in.Using a screwdriver, you'll need to pop it out from around the diameter of the fuel pump. Then you may need to turn the whole pump a little to remove it...being careful of the float arm that is attached to it. Also, there are tools needed to remove the fuel lines, which should be available for rental from autozone. Be sure to replace the fuel filter as not doing this may void the warranty for the new pump. You will need the special tools for this too.
Remove the fuel tank. See Fuel Tank / Service and Repair.
Remove the fuel tank sending unit and pump assembly by turning the cam lock ring counterclockwise. Lift assembly from the fuel tank.
Pull the fuel pump up into the attaching hose while pulling outward away from the bottom support. Take care to prevent damage to the rubber insulator and strainer during removal. After the pump assembly is clear of the bottom support, pull the pump assembly out of the rubber connector for removal. NOTE: Inspect the fuel pump attaching hose for any signs of deterioration. Also check the rubber sound insulator at the bottom of the pump. Replace damaged or deteriorated parts.
Push the fuel pump assembly into the attaching hose.
Position the fuel tank sending unit and pump assembly into the fuel tank. Use a new "O" ring seal. NOTE: Care should be taken not to fold over or twist the strainer when installing the sending unit as this will restrict the flow of fuel. Also, verify that the strainer does not block the full travel of the float arm.
Install cam lock over the assembly and lock by turning clockwise.
