Question about 2004 Mini Cooper

1 Answer

Starter just clicks when I turn it over,

It was starting and running fine then it just went click. Almost sounds like a sparking sound. Are there any shortcut troubleshooting I can do to isolate the solenoid vs. the starter motor?

Where can I check the voltage from? The terminal posts seem the most likely spot, but your saying 8.5vdc I'll check it out. Thanks.

Turns out it was just the battery thanks for the help.

have you checked the battery? if the voltage is not adequate to hold the starter solenoid out to engage the flywheel - you will hear a clicking sound. It must be over 8.5vdc to start your vehicle. Accessories and lights still may work - but not enough to spin the starter.

If it sounds like a sparking sound, make sure you check, tighten, clean all connections at battery & starter, and let me know results.

Is there any sound, like a click, the starter spinning?
This will indicate the battery is bad or a loose connection on the battery.

Does the engine turn over, or is it just silent?
If the engine turns over, the problem could be no spark or bad "Main Relay"
Hope this helps.

Van was running fine, went into store, and when I came back out, heard clicking sound when I opened door, van would not start

only thing i can think of trying is to use the key to lock and then unlock the drivers door, this will disarm the security system/engine immobilizer

Today I went to turn on my car and it didn't crank

make sure the starter is tight and your battery cables are clean and tight if automatic try putting it in neutral if it starts you may have a bad neutral safety switch if it is a stick try push starting if it starts you may have a bad clutch switch also check for a starter relay if u have one try swaping with horn relay and see if it starts

I have a 2003 Pontiac Vibe (91,000 miles) that wouldn't start when I went out to go to run my next errand... just clicking sound when I turned the key. Just put a new serpentine belt on and everything...

Sounds like your battery might be low, A repeated clicking will indicate low battery, a single click would suggest really low battery or possibly starter motor bad.

In my Sonata I went out to start it and it just made clicking noises. What does that mean?

This sounds like your starter or starter relay went. Check fuses to make sure they are all good.

you have a problem with your starter solenoid. the contacts are worn out and needs to be replaced.

it is at the side of the starter. it is where the big wire from the battery is connected.
