Question about 1993 Mazda 626

2 Answers

Mazda 626 misses and/or dies when accelerating.

Half the time it wont even start.
Mazda 626 GE 1993 started having problems after I changed the oil filter and replaced the switched that was leaking oil.

After that its been having problems - missing when I accelerated hard(er), needed to do it slow so it wouldnt stop. Now the car only starts 30% of the time.

The problem does feel like its got no fuel, yes there is fuel in the car and have just replaced the fuel filter (thinking that could be the problem) and made sure the fuel pump is working. Also replaced Ignition leads and test for spark. Everything tests Ok!

The car idles fine when running. Is there anything I could of done when changing the switch?

I'm at a loss - please advise.

    Definatly not a fuel problem,

Yesterday I tested for spark - got spark, just pulling it apart now im getting NO spark ~ a little confused.

I pulled off the distrubuter cap - it rotates still - but i do see a little runaway spark in there, is that meant to be there?? or is there because theres no connection to the ignition leads.

Also i see people posting check 'ecu?' what is that?

Great advice, that was the next thing I was gonna do. The silly distrubuter was buggered, went to wreckers and picked one up - wacked her in, no worries.

    Thanks for your post mate.

It sounds like you have ignition problems, inside the distributer there is an electronic module under the rotor button. This module drives/delivers voltage to the igition coil.
I had the same problem and when I replaced this module it fixed the problem.

GM at one time had oil pressure switch wired in conjunction with fuel pump as a safety feature, so that in an accident, engine would quit, oil pressure would drop, thus disconnect fuel pump circuit, thus no fuel would keep running all over during an accident as long as engine was off. Perhaps, although I cannot confirm at this time, Mazda has similar set-up. I'd buy an oil sender directly from mazda, and make sure you install it to proper torque, and try it, or at very least, try another.

You start by having the Mazda "MECS" (Mazda Electronic Control System) system scanned for fault codes, checking the timing belt for failure and seeing is the engine is getting fuel pressure.

1993 mazda 626 auto, starts fine when cold, but not when I've driven it for a while.

I would start with a good tune up, including the intake gasket. Changes in temperature could cause gaskets to stop sealing properly letting unmeasured air inside the engine. Also check for fuel filter.

1993 mazda 626: could not get trans out of park!

Ignition lock is activated: You over rode it but still have original problem. Alarm system might be confused. SO....

1 disconnect battery negative (-) cable(make you have radio code if any) to reactivate radio, which works anyway if code was never set.

2 press brake peddle for 5 seconds

3 reconnect negative cable to battery.

use key and twist diver door lock to OPEN (this resets alarm which might have caused ignition lock module to activate.

You should be able to turn on the ignition, start the engine and shift out of park. Hope this helps.
