Question about 2002 GMC Yukon XL
A wire is broken inside the steering column. Remove the shrouding around the gear shift lever. You will find an orange wire that is cut from the wire being pinched when the gear shift lever was dropped into low gear at some point. Splice the wire (they are very thin) an you should be good to go.

Check fuses... if ok the wires going to that button like to break ... unscrew handle end and inspect...
