Question about 1994 Pontiac Grand Am
Having problems with car not turning over. almost starts . mechanic put in new fuel pump. he said car ran for short time but died out after short time. he could not get scanner to get codes from car. I have not found any readers that say codes for 1994 grand am. codes stop at 1993. its a 2.3L engine.
If you have a security system in the car, likely it is the problem. If the engine starts then immediately shuts down, the chip in the ignition tumbler likely has failed or needs to be re-set. To see if you have that chip, remove steering wheel column cover...if the actual lock tumbler has a small black wire coming out of it, there is a chip.
To re-set, turn key on so security light flashes and leave it till the light stops flashing.
Don't forget...I'm here and you are there...I can only give you the best possible "educated guess" whereas, in person, I would do testing with meters etc and may determine that there is a better solution. It doesn't take a lot of effort to check this though and it may save you a lot of time.
