Question about 2000 Chevrolet S-10

1 Answer

I have a 2001 S10 4x4, 4.3L crew cab. Since last winter I've started having problems with my 4x4. Sometimes when I push the button to shift it, the light blinks and nothing happens, or vice versa sometimes it will not come out of 4x4. Then more recently, even though I could occasionally get it to shift into 4x4,the front tires don't actually turn. I can hear it shift and the light indicates that 4x4 is engaged, but it doesn't work. Can anybody help me with this, is it a transfer case issue?

2001 frontier only shifts from first to second and wont shift any further. no noise or other problems. any ideas ? jessy from ellijay

a) Check for the over-ride button to be not in, or
b) Find a trustable mechanic, ask him to open the transmission and check for if the transm-oil filter is clogged, change it. (Well this happened to me way back in the 70's). If the mechanic says you need to replace the whole transm., change mechanic. Or you can do it yourself.

2002 Ford F-250 crew cab will not switch into 4WD

The switches are problematic on any vehicle that has automatic locking hubs. Your issue seems to be that the switch has gone bad behind the selector knob for the 4 wheel drive. I would pull the selector knob off and check for proper wire connection and make sure that there is no deposit on the terminals.

Replacing gear shift handle on column

under the cylnder is a very small hole. put the key in the switch and turn it until all the dash lights come on. then take a very still object like a small punch and push it in the small hole and pull out the ignition switch. sometimes u might have to hit the punch to push in the button.
