Car will not move in gear

? Do you mean not shift out of Park or not move in Drive setting?

There is a lock-out switch tied into the brake pedal lever which allows the car to shift from the Park position. If the brake lights do not work when pressed, that's the problem. The switch is either out of position or broken.

If the car does not move in gear, the selector may not be moving on the transmission end, or the electronic trans solenoids are not activating.

F250 gear shift selector

check the trans shifter cable to see if it moved out of place and or remove the dash to check behind the gages to see if the cable that goes from the steering colum to the gages has been damaged or stuck!

Tranny wont go in gear but truck seems stuck in park..happened while stuck in snow going from drive to reverse..any ideas on what may be the problem

with the truck not running. turn the key on. move your gear selector. do you hear the normal clicking as you move through the gears. if so you park pin is the problem and you need a trans shop. if not it is possible you linkage came off. out side the trans or nside. if inside the trans you have to drop the pan and see if the parts are laying in the bottom and bolt back up. if not laying theere again take to a trans shop. if out side the trns just repair the faulty part. sometimes the little boss o the side of threans breaks off the the linkgae will not move the gears in the trans but will move in the cab.

My 1999 Chevy Blazer wont go into park

secure vehicle with chocks and set parking brake under vehicle check on drivers side of transmission selector control look at cable for binding or damage the cable snaps into place if looks good remove cable and try to put selector shifter into park[ if it goes in and stays than look back under vehicle and try to match up selector and cable.not reaching and trans selector in park adjust cable and reconnect try shifter for park] -if shifter doesnt go into park than check on dash plastic selector lock may b worn or damaged, if above is fine and selector/shifter is not problem than problem is internal inside transmission park rod damaged or broke good luck and thanks for using fixya

The transmission will not engage. The problem began with the park position not engaging. Could it be the linkage? Lawrence

if the car doesn't move then the speedo would not move, right? or do u mean something else? yours trans has failed or the trans digital range selector switch is bad, have a scanner put on the system and see if any trouble codes are present.
