Your timing sounds like its a couple of teeth off but if cylinder wont hold compression when valves are closed you have a bent valve

What causes low compression

Weak or worn piston rings , needing a valve job , valves don't seating right . Timing chain or belt worn a bad head gasket , warped cylinder head . The way to find out would be to do a cylinder leak down test . Videos on youtube showing how to do it .

Got a 54 plate Vauxhall tigra was driving down the motorway steam came out from under the engine lights come up on the dash as the car had cut out it has no compression in the first 3 pots

Head gasket has blown. If it happened quickly then you might save the head itself, if not, then be prepared for a costly job whatever happens.

I've a 1999 mercury stable 3.0 double over head cam it got hot and cut off when cooled off chanked it up and blowing white smoke it don't seemingly to have water in the oil does that mean I have a cracked...

If your engine has overheated then more than likely you have a blown head gasket.
1. have compression checked for each cylinder.
if a cylinder shows low compression 20 lbs less than the others then you have a gasket/head job needing repaired.
2. if there is water in the oil. your engine has a blown head gasket.

aluminum heads will need to be checked at a machine shop for warpped head...and all head bolts will need replaced.

Compression problem on one valve

If you have low compression in one cylinder (0% or more lower than the rest) first check that the valve follower is not sticking and holding the valve open. The fix is head off and a head job done on the valves IT may be a loose insert seat

My mazda seemed to have died down when i acelerated along the motorway we are supposed to a certain speed but she didnt exactly cut out just slowed right down to the point i had no power once ecelerat

Did it Set a code?
Did it overheat?
What is your Fuel Pressure?

Do a Compression Test and see if you overheated and warped the heads and your compression is gone?

My 2000 Lincoln Continental has a cyclinder 8 misfire with 28% low compression. I was told this means I need a new engine. Is that correct?

depends what is causing it..... the low pressure could be head gasket is cracked damaged by that cylinder... crack in head etc.... more then likely something small not the whole engine.... could be piston, head, head gasket etc.... i wouldnt think it would be the whole engine needs to be replaced... hope this helps cheers

2002 kia spectra timing belt broke.would it have bent the valves?

yes..you will have a broke valve...so you are looking at a head job....if you wanna make sure..replace the timing belt and check for compression...if there are no or low compression than you need a head job...but if you have a good compression that you lucky...all you have to do is start it up...good luck

MY 2002 cuts off when i slow down or downshift to lower gears while driving after a major head job;what could be the problem with the sensors ;I have changed the air-flow sensor but what else could cause...

Hi there, It may be the manifold air pressure sensor or idle air control sensor or you may just have a vacuum leak. you need someone to use a scantool to check all the perameters. and go from there. Regards Ben

Engine cutting out when idling or slowing down

Here is the common cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake

Two front cylinders are low

If your going to chg. head gasget, as long as you got the head off you would be smart to have a valve job done too. That could be why you lost compression in the 2 cyls. burnt valves will cause loss of compression. But take note if you elect to have a valve job done you also run the risk of it to start useing oil because of the increase in compression on the oil rings with that many miles it can happen.
