2000 Avalon, won't start. It acts like the battery is dead.Placed the battery charger on the battery and it showed that it is charged. I tried to start it with the charger on but when I turned the ign. to start the tac and speed moved to 3000rpm and 40 - 100 mph. I have checked all the fuses and they are ok. What else could cause this problem Thanks

Locke up starter or the solenoid for/on the starter. If you can, remove it and have it tested.

Sounds like the starter has gone out. Remove it and take it to an auto parts store for testing and replacement.

Can you mess a battery up by charging it over night

I assume the car would not start, that was the reason for charging the battery in the first place? Most modern battery chargers have a circuit that as the battery "fills up", drop the amperage to maintenance level or 2 amps. Pull the battery and have it checked. I would also have the alternator checked. It may not be working wright.

1998 Cadillac Deville. Fully charged battery but car is dead. I tried to start the car and it just clicked but it had some, but very little power. I placed the battery charger on the car and in 3 hours...

I am thinking a couple of things here:
1. Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)
Solution: hold the gas pedal to the floor and try to start the vehicle (if a clutch make sure the clutch is in). If the vehicle starts the TPS is bad or needs to be cleaned.
2. Try to Jump the battery
3. Very little power can be an intake manifold leak, water port area or reservoir cap. Compression.

Usually a TPS problem will not throw a code like other start up sensors.

I hope this helps.

On a 2000 toyota celica, the battery is dead for a month, if I jump start the battery and drive it will I hurt the alternator?

if the bat is stone dead a trickel charger wont work you can jump start it and drive for awile but you will only get a surface charge on it then bring it back and put your charger on it for about 4 hours

Truck will not keep and charge over night

The battery won't keep a charge or it won't when it is in the truck? Will the battery keep a charge if you put it on the charger and then unplug it overnight, all of this out of the truck. Then in the morning will it start the truck. If not your battery is bad. If it keeps a charge and will start the truck and then it goes dead after several hours, your truck is drawing a load on the battery. You will have to find what has been left on or shorted out.

Toyota Avalon 2000 battery went dead, put slow charge on, now the temp/fuel gauge and panel lights don't work. Fuses look good. Where is the problem?

Try a new battery. If current battery is more than 5 years old ,and after you charge it she doen't pass a load test ...its time to go.

Car wont start, acts like battery is dead. battery shows full charge. full lights, buzzers, etc. put it on charger-didnt start...cleaned cable connections-didnt start...tried to jump with truck-didnt...

Check the battery +12v power connection to the starter is in good order,
Check the ground connection between the battery negative and the engine/starter motor is robust and intact.
If no problem with above, replace the starter motor.
