if you are talking about the transmission then the trans needs to be flushed a simple drain and fill is not enough the torque converter holds a lot of fluid and if it is cold where you are maybe frozen.auto trans fluid can mix with antifreeze.

sounds like the syncronizers are broken in the gearbox or it just may be low on gear oil all together.. check gear level by removing the plug in the side of the box under the vehicle and stick the smallest finger in the hole and bend down..see if fluid oil shows on fingertip..if not fill until it runs out this plug hole..there is also a drain at the base near the back tailshaft.. this is not a level check location.. it is a drain only.. if in doubt, get a towyard replacement trans gearbox and intall it in and it should work.. good luck

I accidently drained the auto trans when changing my oil on a 2001 passat. How do I get the fluid back in the trans?

Right next to the plug that you removed that drained the transmission fluid is another plug, which is used to fill the transmission with fluid. You will need some type of hand pump and a reservoir to hold the transmission fluid. Parts stores sell a small pump that screws onto the top of gallon sized gear lube bottles. This would be ideal, since it has the hoses necessary to transfer the fluid from the reservoir or bottle, to the transmission. Pump fluid into the transmission until a little begins to run out of the fill hole. replace the plug in the transmission and start the engine, let it warm up, then move the gearshift thru all the gears. Put the transmission in neutral and check the fluid level with the dipstick under the hood. If you decide to replace the fluid with fresh fluid, use only fluid designated for your vehicle to avoid damage to the transmission.

If fluid level in trans is ok it sounds like clutches in tranny or internal pressures are going bad.

On a standard 94 corrolla, is tranny fluid used or gear fluid and how much?

Depends. If it is manual transmission, gear fluid; if it is automatic, then automatic trans fluid. I guess you are asking abot differential fluid, right? Auto trans fluid go into differential and AT gearbox. Gear oil go into manual transmission and differential.
