Question about 1997 Nissan Maxima
How do i get my car back on
Your ABS light is not directly related to your engine and would not cause your vehicle to shut down. Therefore, we need to have the Diagnostic Codes extracted from your vehicle's computer, before we can examine likely causes.
Assuming you cannot extract codes from the DTC connector, I can offer a different method which applies to some late model Nissans...
ACCELERATOR PEDAL METHOD (read carefully):
1 Switch the ignition ON (but DO NOT start the engine). 2 Wait 3 seconds. 3 Within the next 5 seconds, "fully depress - then fully release the accelerator pedal" 5 times (i.e. once per second). 4 Wait 7 seconds. 5 Fully depress the accelerator pedal...and hold it down for approximately 10 seconds. 6 The "ENGINE CHECK" Light should begin flashing. Fully release the accelerator pedal. 7 Read codes as described in the Code Format Description below. Code Format Description - the fault code will be in one of the following Code Formats below: • The code is made up of four groups of flashes each representing a digit. • A long flash indicates the 'thousands' digit. • 'Hundreds' 'Tens' and 'Ones' are groups of short flashes respectively. • A long pause separates each trouble code. • A shorter pause separates each group of flashes • Please note: A '0' digit is indicated by 10 flashes with this system.
Or... • Each code is made up of two series of flashes. • The long flashes indicate the 'hundreds' digit, however can be a value up to 13 (eg 13 flashes = Thirteen Hundred). • The short flashes indicate the 'ones' digit, however can a value up to 15. • A long pause separates each code sequence. Once you obtain the codes (or have someone do it for you) from your ENGINE CHECK LIGHT, post the codes here are someone can assist you further. PS: Your first priority is to get the vehicle mobile again. We can then deal with the ABS issue separately. Cheers,
