Steering wheel squeeks when turning either direction.

A squeak or a whining noise? If it is a squeak then it is something mechanical from your steering column down. Could be anything from rack and pinion to the tie rods and ball joints. If it is a whining noise the you need to check your power steering fluid and power steering pump. If the fluid is low then you have a leak in the power steering system somewhere and needs to be fixed before you ruin the pump.

Unfortunately the mechanic you spoke to was correct, a lot of Ford products had a bad run of power steering pumps. They notoriously leak and causes the pump to whine when steering.

Whining noise when turnins steering wheel &

the whining noise you are experiencing are coming from under the bonnet and you need to have the belt serviced. look for any oil leaks and correct them first. if not inspect the condition of the belt and and whether or not you can read it normally. if not it should be turned around. sounds absolutely crazy i know. it has worked for me for about 10 years. it could be just worn and excessively glazed and cracked. simple fix bloke. cheers.

Clicking in steering column

Hi

Check the lower steering column universal joint coupling needle rollers !

Open the hood, and get someone to wiggle the steering wheel, and using a good torch, check the lower steering column joint, for any free play, or if you can hear or feel, the clicking, and check all the clamp bolts and nuts.

Good Luck!
A FixYa rating is appreciated ....Thank you !

Steering colom will not let key turn

Try this if steering wheel is turned slightly to one side meaning front wheels turn steering wheel to that sam side take strain off the lock in steering column and key should turn. I believe that the steering wheel is locked. If it doesn't work turn left or right and try again. Good Luck and contact if you need more help.
