Yes, you should be able to add it thru the level check plug, which I believe is removed with a 1/2 inch drive extension that should fit in the plug, and just loosen and remove. To be at the correct level, the gear oil should just start to flow out of the plug hole. And of course, for an accuracy, do this on a level surface.

What type of rear end is in my 1997 f-250 crew cab 4x4 heavy duty 7.3 powerstroke turbo diesel? is there any gaskets that need to be replaced when i change the fluid ?
