Transmissions out of 1999 ford escort 2.0L SE SOHC and a friend has given me a manual transmission from a 1998 ford escort 2.0L SE SOHC. Will this match up without being to much of a pain in the neck

It's either a perfect match or not. And if not (because of something minor like a transaxle mount being in the wrong place) you cannot attempt to use it. So ask at a salvage yard if their interchange source shows it can be interchanged. I am guessing it will be a match, but you should find out beforehand.

We just purchased a 2002 Ford Escort. Tonight, when starting the car, it ran very rough and then died. We started it again and it ran fine after that. It has happened twice and it has only happened when...

Could be a idle air problem. The injector could be leaking when you shut it off ..Try some injector cleaner see if it gets better..The idle air shouldnt run rough just idle real low or sometimes it will get stuck and idle high....Are you losing any antifreeze..If you are the 2.0 SOHC engine bad about leaking antifreeze into the cylinder and makes the engine run rough until it burns it out..See if you can see the smoke coming out when it happens..White smoke indicates antifreeze,,Black smoke indicates fuel..

2002 Escort sohc a/t, Recently cleaned iac, replaced spark plugs, replaced fuel filter, My car starts but does not stay running, If i hold the gas pedal down and keep the idol higher it will stay running,...

it may be the idle control valve, you can try cleaning it,
its just under the bottom of the 4 inlet manifold pipes.

It's held on with two 8mm bolts one at the top and one at the bottom.
1. Ok after removing the two bolts and dropping the idle control valve down unclip the wires and remove it.
2. Now soak in some petrol and spray wd40 on it shake it aroung to make sure you got it all clean and then leave it in a container with some petrol in it to soak.
hope that helps

1999 Ford Escort Won't start after replacing Plugs and cables.

check the battery if its ok, check for power at the starter with a meter or a test light. it sould have a constant power source and one that has power when you turn the key to start. if those are there you need a starter
