You probably would be better off getting a 12volt electrical test light. There not much any auto store or hardware store has them. Also at walmart. And go from there.

In the diagram the top wire is voltage and the bottom wire is ground. You can use a test light to check both voltage and ground. Do the park lamps in the front, work? Both front and rear get voltage from the same source.

All lights including Park Lights Work. So Your saying I should have 12 Volts on the Orange/white wire?

  • jack layton
    jack layton Mar 19, 2018

On the right side, it is white wire with orange tracer, yes. For testing, you might be able to use jumper wire from left side, pink/red to right side, white/orange, see if it works? There could be wiring circuit problem on the right side, check wiring connector, also.

Just to add, if you try the jumper for the right side, you may need to clip the wire so no backfeed in that circuit. You could always splice it back, later, if needed. I'm just trying to see if you can get right side lamp working?

What about running a wire from license plate light bulb plus 12 to the Plus of pass tail light? Would it be ok???

  • jack layton
    jack layton Mar 20, 2018

    Sure, you can try it.

Ok there is only 7.3 volts going to the pin for tail light (no lighting visible) but the brake light ( same bulb ) gets 13.2 volts. On the harness, it is the pin next to the blank one.

I also have a backup light (works) not visible in the schematic you show me. Oddly, I measured two org/wht wires going to the rear lens with one tied to the only black wire on the harness. Perhaps this isn’t THE 2005 Jeep Liberty Limited layout but just an example of typical wiring?

You didn't answer if the park lamps in front, work? In the diagram two different fuses for right and left. In my diagram your tag lite splices into the left rear park lamp. I guess we need to differentiate left and right for your testing.
I can't get the whole wiring diagram in one picture, If I tried, the diagram features would be so small you couldn't tell anything.

2006 Jeep Liberty Renegade. Brake lights both out. Replaced the #12 fuse with a blue 15 and every time I step on brake it blows the fuse. What do i do next??

I would start by tracing the tail light wire harness. Where ever it passes through a body hole or grommet look for pinched wire or cut in wire. The bulb sockets might also have an issue so run a continuity check between ground and the connectors in the light plug socket. also check bulbs and make sure they are not damaged or bad..

The first thing is to make sure there is no water getting into the lens. there are alot of cheap bulbs out there that dont last long at all, you replaced the socket which is good try this , when you buy a bulb get it from the dealer they will sell you a better bulb it will be a long life type bulb and if theres still a prolem them you will need to have the wiring checked to make sure theres good connections . a bad power or ground wire will destroy the bulb cause a higher than normal amp draw and poping the bulb.

When I press the break only my passanger side tail light works. Is this a fuse problem?

Try replacing the passenger side tail light bulb.
Inside trunk, remove two black plastic nuts holding carpet liner in place on side where bulb is burnt out.
Pull back carpet, use a flat screwdriver to pop out the wiring. Remove three nuts using a small open-ended socket or pliers.
Pop out entire tail light assembly. Locate bulb to be replaced. Rotate 1/4 turn to remove from socket. Replace bulb and repeat in reverse order to reinstall.

there is a ground wire for both sides. follow the wire from the connector to body and clean, Test the 12 volt wire to make sure it has 12 volts. If not bad switch or bad wire or contact in the connector. Wiggle the connector first with the lights on to see if it changes.
